My first serving of The Appetiser
In this thread I will be logging my progress at going through The Appetiser, until I make it work or run out of money.
Over the next three months I can spend about $2000 of my hard earned money for the traffic.
My biggest goal is to start making a profit of at least $1000 per month by the end of this year, so I can leave my dreaded job and start working full time as an advertiser.
My hope is that this thread will serve as a way to help me stay dedicated to my plan.
What I have done so far:
- Acquired a list of hot mobile offers from my affiliate manager at f5.
- Selected an offer to start promoting. I picked the Dolphin browser for Malaysia with payout of $0.32 per install.
- Picked and angle. I went with the superior browser speed.
- Created several banners. I've sent them to my AM for approval, but I'm still waiting for the offer provider to respond. AM said the banners should be OK, and I can start promoting.
- Created a campaign in Decisive and cloned it as instructed in The Appetiser. Some of my banners were rejected by the Decisive staff. They said the banners were misguiding. I guess that was because of the exclamation mark icons in the banners.
- I started the campaign with only 5 banners, instead of 8 (because I was too fed up to create new ones and reapply).
I think this angle could still work, even though I got only 3 conversions in 1.5 days. I think my banners were the problem, not the offer or angle.
What do you think (try not to laugh too hard):
I think they are too repetitive and there is too few of them.
Right now I'm working on new set of banners about the same angle (browsing speed). I'm using completely variable styles and I've google translated them into Malayan.
I'll tell you how that goes.

Yep, work on banner variation.
Right now they are all very similar - several lines of text, a link or button, and white or yellow background.
Incorporate icons, use contrasting gradient backgrounds, get wild and creative, hand draw some shit, play with animation, etc.
Here's an example of the best banner in the world, might take a while to load on a mobile device (HINT HINT)

(Note that there are loop limits on lots of sources e.g. Decisive but it's better than nothing)

Today I woke at 4 AM and made some animated banners. I followed Mr. Green's tutorial on making them.
Here is my new batch of banners that I submitted to Decisive and F5 for approval. What do you guys think?

Much better.
Remember you should only loop 3 times, so some of them will get disapproved for infinite looping.

I've been struggling to keep working on this, because I could hardly find good, few hours long, chunks of time to work on my campaigns. To tackle this problem, I started getting up at 4 AM. Today is my fourth day on this new routine, and it feels fantastic. Book The Miracle Morning helped me a lot with this new habit in forming. I recommend it to anyone who needs more time to get his things done.
For now I gave up on the Dolphin offer. I think it's working good for some affiliates, but I haven't given enough effort to finding and trying good angles. I wanted to try something new so I chose a pin submit offer Win an iPad Air for Paraguay.
My angle is aimed to the people who think iPad is cool, would like to have, but at the same time think it's too expensive.
I came up with these banner titles and had them translated at onehourtranslation.com:
Banner 00
"iPad is so darn expensive!" Not any more. I got mine here!
"El iPad es tan condenadamente caro!" No más. ¡Yo conseguí el mío aquí!
Banner 01
Stop! No need to waste money on iPad! Click to win
¡Alto! ¡No hay necesidad de gastar dinero en un iPad! Haz clic para ganar
Banner 02
iPad is too expensive! Win yours now!
¡El iPad es demasiado caro! ¡Gana el tuyo ya!
Banner 03
Stop! Do not buy over-expensive iPad until you try to get it here FREE!
¡Alto! ¡No compres el iPad más caro hasta intentar conseguirlo GRATIS aquí!
Banner 04
Stop! iPad is too expensive to buy! Win yours here!
¡Alto! ¡El iPad es demasiado caro para comprar! ¡Gana el tuyo aquí!
Banner 05
Attention! Do not waste money on iPad! Get yours here!
¡Atención! ¡No malgastes dinero en un iPad! ¡Consigue el tuyo aquí!
Banner 06
Stop! iPad is not worth your money! Click to win yours free!
¡Alto! ¡El iPad no vale tu dinero! ¡Haz clic para ganar el tuyo gratis!
Banner 07
"Why must iPad be so expensive?" Not any more. Get iPad Air Free!
"¿Por qué el iPad tiene que ser tan caro?" No más. ¡Obtén un iPad Air gratis!
Then I played around in photoshop to make these banners:
All of them got accepted two days ago and are being displayed as I write. Traffic from Paraguay is not especially abundant, as only WiFi&App combination is hitting the daily goals:
I could not find any app or site that qualifies for the cutting (third of the total spend, no conversions, more than three times the payout spend) to optimize the results.
From what I can tell now, I think I will need to choose a new angle or offer and go again. What do you think? Thank you for your advice and opinions.
P.S.: Am I being to spammy here with all my attached images?
