decisions decisions, between a rock and a hard place!

Hi Stackers,

Have been browsing/learning as much as I can the last couple of weeks.

Reading some of the follow alongs on here has been a massive inspiration, and trying to stay focused on one thing is a challenge!

I know that the advice is to stick to something and go with it, but here is my dilema.

I started on Facebook, which I think does have potential, however I don't want to get my account banned thus not trying any of the crazy offers, just sticking to what is advised in Zenos guide.

Having just read Stackmans whatsapp post I really feel that mobile offers a lot of potential for a newb, in terms of scale and also what i can target.

Are any of you making good money via very clean facebook verticals, i.e. gaming? And how much did you have to spend and test to get to the point where the campaign is profitable?

Should I keep to facebook or dip my toes into the mobile water instead.

any guidence/opinions massively apprecited - looking for help with my focus!

Captain Zeno does well with gaming, he wrote up a great post here on the topic http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...eat-Sheet-Here!

If you have access to accounts, I'm sure even as a clean FB marketer you can lose accounts, so you need to make sure you're okay with getting new accounts.

Mobile definitely does have a tonne of scaling opportunity, but generally requires a bit more budget as there are more variables you need to test.

Which one excites you more?

Thanks Maynzie, Yes I followed the guide and Zeno was a massive help. I do like facebook and the targeting that one is capable of. However that being said I think (I could be wrong) that it is quite hard to make money if looking to go completely vanilla on the marketing. And this is my main concern.

I think the mobile is newer and is a little more forgiving when it comes to my concern with facebook. I can expand my budget slightly to compensate and do think that my tech knowledge (whilst is not super advanced) is enough to build LPs etc... Also mobile is slightly newer with much less restriction.

So I guess when it comes down to it, I can see myself with a future on mobile and less so on facebook. (not that facebook has anything wrong with it, i just think that teh barriers of entry for a newb are less for mobile, just IMHO) If i am wrong please say your being a moron shut up and stick with one and don't change :P

I've been working on mobile this year and I get tempted to switch to FB each time I face some setbacks. Switching means that you have to re-learn a lot of things. I've learned a ton since the start of the year so I don't want to lose that.

With mobile you cannot do just whatever you want with regards to compliancy. You are dealing with advertisers, aff networks and traffic networks which can block your account and ban you.

FB has to advantage of good scaling opportunities. RTB networks often don't have massive volumes for the interesting GEOs.

thanks keepthecar - I have have only been working on facebook 2.5 weeks so I have the position where I can switch out without the sacrifice of not losing much knowledge, just wondering if it is the right decision to do it. or do i keep plugging away at FB

in mobile I appreciate that one cannot do whatever they want but there is much more scope than with FB. For example, I could run an app install campaign, without owning the app and without risking banning my advertising account (something which is pretty tricky to do in facebook as it involves using a bait link in ad set up and switching it later on , obviously this could get your account banned)

Flip side you can mega target which is much harder to do in on a mobile media buy, so you can be a bit tighter with the budgets and reduce the variables that might cause campaign failure.

Stackman in his whatsapp thread mentioned that it is not unreasonable to get 1k conversions or 1k per day. When I am advertising a game on FB to get 100 conversions from a 90k audience seems like more of a mountain than a molehill.

The issue is not which is harder/easier as they both have their challenges completely appreciate that. I guess it boils down to what is infact the best option for a newbie. should I learn FB first then move to mobile or should I move to mobile then go back to FB once I have mastered a skillset?
