A Quick Note on Decisive (17)

A Quick Note on Decisive

A lot of people start on Decisive and quite often the data can be overwhelming!

Now, before starting campaigns, you should check out the planner and have an idea of how much traffic is available for your selected country, banner size, etc.

When looking at your daily stats and considering volume available, the bids | wins can be a bit confusing.

Be mindful of the following (source: Donte from Decisive)

"The speed and amount of bidding is affected by three things: SmartCPM, the daily limit, and if the account balance is below $50.

Slower bidding happens for the daily limit and the $50 account balance threshold to spread your money out during the day. The CPMs would only affect your wins."

So:

1. Smart CPM and bid in general effects your likelihood of winning abid. (resulting in bid > win %)

2. A daily limit on your campaign will throttle impressions i.e. bids, giving you a fewer number of auctions overall in an attempt to spread out impressions across the day.

3. If account balance is below $50, your campaign is also throttled.

Thus, when looking at your current campaign data and considering scaling, be aware that the number of bids does not reflect the amount of traffic available.

There were a few questions about this recently -- and admittedly even I wasn't quite sure of the answer, so I figure it warranted a post.

Thanks Zeno! If we are following the appetizer, would it be better to just watch the campaigns and not include a daily limit then?

That could be dangerous - without a daily limit, unless you are under $50 on your account, you could spend a lot of money very quickly.

Furthermore, you really need to spread data out evenly rather than get a surge from a narrow time window in the day.

Yeah, definitely include a daily limit. You never know when an emergency will happen and you'll not be able to watch your campaigns for a bit.

Sorry to interrupt the convo, but we've released two new features that you'll want to check out. One of them I know a lot of you will appreciate. http://decisive.is/blog/tools-simpler-mobile-ads/

Donte, thanks for your efforts, Batch Blacklisting works fine for me !

btw, why don't you have like "check all / uncheck all" checkbox under the "Blacklist" column ? It looks weird for me to not have it. I believe it could be VERY handy to a lot of us.

Sorry if my question is stupid - I'm still a newbie.

andycy - No question is stupid. I'll forward the suggestion to our engineers.

Hi Andcy,

Could you give an example of a use case for the uncheck/check all? That way we can better build for what you need. Thanks!

Andrea, thank for your attention to such a small note, it looks really warm when someone paid attention to even oddest ideas of their clients.

actually, thought came to me from common sense, not during a fight with particular placements. when I so Live Reports for the first time of my life, I just thought - why there are so many checkboxes and no ability to manage them all ? for example Gmail - has it by that time I didn't know I always could hit Edit and select the only placements I'd like to

Hi Andycy,

Of course! We spend a lot of time thinking about which features will make the most impact to you, our advertisers. I was just trying to figure out when someone would want to "select all" so that when we are working on the interface we can keep your feedback in mind.

Say you have a daily spend of x, and y% of x is spent every day during a certain period.
If you aggressively day part for only a few hours in a day, will Decisive spend only that same y%, or will Decisive attempt to spend all of the daily in the shorter window?

@thedav

Daily limit is set up so it knows the hours it has available to spend and will try and spend all of the daily budget in the shorter window.

It will spend more aggressively unless a) you are being outbid b) you are already winning the available inventory

@lukegreg Would you send a screenshot and your username to support@decisive.is. Was this from a while ago?

The most annoying thing in Decisive for me is when you add some banners to a campaign - entire campaign goes to pending. even much more awful and awkward sources let you add creatives without causing pending whole campaign.

the only way to avoid such behaviour - just copying current campaign and adding creatives to new one. but it breaks statistics data apart and causes much more approving work for Decisive (to approve the same old creatives one more time)

^^^ They are pretty fast about approving, though. Just look at your camps and find the times when your CPAs are the highest and upload the creatives then.

Its a small price to pay, really.

it's not about me paying, it's about them losing money for nothing while a campaign waiting for approval. it makes no sense.

Has anyone made use of the new Text Ad Creator tool that Dante referenced in his new features post? Curious to hear any thoughts (positive or negative).
