Making the switch to
Im currently using DNSmadeeasy and Id like to CNAME the
Another thing, when adding landing pages and you change up your domain in the future, lets say you get another CNAME as voluum suggests, doesnt that make all your landing pages with the current CNAME offer link not functional? So you would have to go back and edit them all out. Unless you use your long voluum one? Whats the best approach for this? Im asking since I like to change up my tracker domain links each month or so, and going through all landing pages and switching up the offer links is a bit of a pain.
For your second question, no, it's fine to do this.
You can CNAME a million domains to your abcde.trackvoluum.com and none of them will effect each other at all.
When you want to switch a new one in, just CNAME that domain to abcde.trackvoluum.com and start using those links.
As long as you don't mess with the DNS settings of the old domain and it doesn't expire, it will be fine.
As for your first question, this is something I battled with in the past.
To the best of my knowledge, in order to CNAME the root domain to something else, the CNAME entry must be the only DNS entry for that domain.
In other words, in your DNS settings, you must have no A-records, no NS-records, nothing but the single CNAME entry.
The problem is most DNS providers don't allow this and/or put automatic entries in there.
So, I would talk to your DNS provider - the "I would like to CNAME a root domain" question should be something they are aware of.
It is possible.
I thought so too, since I saw a landing page and the person who was hosting it was using
I wonder why in their blog here : http://www.dnsmadeeasy.com/press-rel...aname-records/
They state this "“CNAME records cannot legally be created for the apex or root record of a domain. " .. I did however submit a support request to see if they know how to do it / if possible.
Never heard that, I don't believe it's correct - though it is abnormal to do so.
