So I'm in a bit of a frustrating situation and thought I would post here.
I tried to run ads to one of my sites and basically almost instantly got a "your account is at risk of being banned" email from Adwords.
They said the site violates their policies. It was a squeeze page in the MMO niche - though not spammy at all and designed very nicely - so I thought "Okay, no problem, let me just delete the ad".
It turns out that isn't enough with Google? I chatted with a rep and they basically said even if I'm not running ads that site is now associated with me so must be fixed. How is this possible?
I ran through a scenario with them and said what if I created an ad and mistyped the domain I'm running ads for and that site violates Google's policies. There's no way I could ever fix that site to be in line with them (because I don't own it) but my account would still get banned?
To add, this is an account I've had for around 6 years and never had previous issues with.
They're basically sending me to this page: https://support.google.com/adwordspo.../1050602?hl=en
If I follow every single step here it would kill my conversion rates. Even just one change I made dropped my conversion rate by 10%.
So what do I do now?
I'm assuming I'm going to have to edit the site - which is crazy IMO - and then not promote it for a few weeks while things "clear" and then I can put it back to normal or am I screwed?
What a lot of people don't know is that paused ads and campaigns where the links go dead can cause your account to be banned.
You can't delete ads but from my experience if you delete the ad they will ignore it when it comes to manual reviews. Not sure about those automated responses as it only crawls the page. It most likely found some script on your page that it did not like.
I see my bff (google) is on her period again.
Ugh.
Given your profile, I'd be tempted to go the publicity route on this one.
Try writing a blog post about the situation and publicising it in places where Google employees hang out - Hacker News, relevant subreddits, Search Engine Land, etc, etc. You're quite likely to draw the attention of someone with power to sort this out - I've seen that happen on HN multiple times.
You may well have thought of doing this already and have reasons not to, but just in case you haven't - that's definitely what I'd do in this situation.
It sucks, and is brutally unfair, but it does appear to work.
Dont fuck with google, fix the site ASAP and don't touch that url to revert changes for a long time - like ever.
Once you're in manual review you either comply or they will disable and possibly (on multiple offences) ban you.
MCC and multiple accounts are the way to go as Atilla says.
As for carumen's advice.. you really don't want to go that way. Review department has nothing to do with any other department and should not be influenced / forced by other departments (although this happens if you have a % of country's spend, lets say if you account for 10-20% of google's ad budget in a small country).
Bend over and comply with the policy, google will not let it go.
When you comply to their guidelines and they give you OK, then start nagging support.
Becuase this is a bit absurd. If the site / campaings linking to it is deleted from ad words then they should not shit about their ad words policies,
unless they are brining up the quality guidelines for search inclusion ?
Thanks for all of the replies. It really sucks because it's the homepage of my site.
Guess I know what I'll be doing today!
