gaming niche facebook new campaign

hi All,

I am looking for some advice on what I might be doing wrong with my facebook campaign. I am running a test on a maxbounty CPA offer for a multi player game.

The campaign is running 5 image sets and 2 text sets. at the moment I am getting 0.6% CTR which I dont think is horrible for my first campaign.
I used facebook audience insights and targetted the ad to people who play multiplayer online games, as well as specific games. The reach is est @ 1.2 mil
with FB the ads are set up at a CPC auto adjust.

So far it has sent 15 clicks although no conversions. The questions therefore are:

do the reach need to be greater to get more clicks?
when the clicks go through to the LP people are not continuing with their actions, what could i be doing wrong?

thanks in advance

That's nowhere near enough data to draw solid conclusions, I'm afraid.

What conversion rate do you need to be profitable, and what's your current click cost? We can advise from there!

As a general rule, it sounds like your targeting is quite broad. I'd recommend drilling down a bit to specific titles like the one you're advertising, and dropping the general "multiplayer online games", which encompasses everything from Pioneer Trail to DOTA.

Firstly, read my guide back to front - make sure you know exactly how the traffic source works first.

For example, you say you put the bid to a CPC auto adjust but this simply doesn't exist - I don't know what you mean by this?

1. Split your campaigns differently - I think I commented on this in another thread. 1 image per ad set, and duplicate the ad a few times to give e.g. 3 identical ads in an ad set > run them at the same time > pause weak performers. Not critical but helpful!

2. Your reach is too high IMO - when starting out, better to target more tightly.

3. 15 clicks doesn't tell you much at all, other than ad CTR.

4. Reach -- do you mean audience? Increasing audience size over 1.2 million isn't solving anything. If you mean do you need more impressions (reach) to get more clicks? Of course... this is fundamentally true in all traffic sources. For a specific CTR... more impressions >> more clicks. Or higher CTR >> more clicks for same number of impressions...

5. Can't say, no one can tell you what might be wrong with some hypothetical landing page with unknown content or appearance...

hi Zeno,

1. point taken on the guide - I have paused the campaign until I get it set up in line with that.

2 reach - yes by reach I mean audience size.

3. Bidding is set for clicks and then set for facebook to "Automatically optimize to get more clicks". (should I be using this or be setting the amount manually?)

Facebook has several bidding modes, the primary two being CPC and oCPM.

With CPC, you bid a static CPC and that is the maximum you will pay. The real CPC you pay depends on the demographic, competition, etc., and ad CTR -- which influences the CPC algorithm and causes the CPC to slowly decay.

With oCPM, you bid an absolute CPM value. However, there are 4 'objectives' that you can bid toward.

Clicks, Social actions, Reach (impressions), and actions.

In my FB guide I cover how this can be visualised as a Venn diagram on top of your audience.

Anyway, in the native FB interface, if you set FB to optimise for clicks, I believe it is bidding oCPM with the bidding allocated toward the clicks objective.

I would highly suggest that you use the power editor, where things are much more transparent and detailed -- and so you know exactly how you are bidding :-)
