+ ROI with mobile. Help me scale!!!

Hi guys, Ive been following the mobile cook book appetiser method and had a few disasters but now i think im on to a winner.

Started out with -ve ROI but with optimisation Ive had +ve ROI the last few days and looking to scale.

Few details:

Running offer from F5 Media
Campaign set up on decisive as per appetiser
My offer GEO is Germany and I'm direct linking to offer landing page.
The campaign is targeting mobile apps on wifi
My daily budget is $8 but I'm not hitting it
CPM is $0.3

Anything else Ive missed thats important?

I think this could be a winner but I have no idea how Im supposed to scale this thing up. Please HELP!!

First thing to do is to determine what happens if you push your CPM up. You might think that'll automatically drop your ROI, but that's definitely not always the case.

Try increasing it to $0.42 or so - if that doesn't result in a significant traffic increase, keep pushing it up in $0.10 increments until you're seeing significantly more traffic. Then let it run for another 2 days (probably at more like $15 spend a day) and see if you are profitable still.

Make sure to keep cutting placements that aren't converting as usual - increasing your bid will expose you to more placements.

In the first instance, you have to get more volume on the placements that are working.

You can do this by, for example:

- Bidding higher to get more impressions
- Increasing your CTRs
- Expanding the number of placements on that channel through different variations or permutations
- Expanding beyond your current channel to new channels with similar placements adapted to these new channels

Ok increased CPM to $0.43 and will leave it for a few days and see if ROI drops.

Ok guy's, little update. I increased CPM to $0.43 and seen little difference. Then increased to $1 and The traffic started to flow. I removed the placements that had no clicks/really high CPC with few clicks as these placements were eating my budget and getting 0 conversions.

Now I'm spending my daily budget and have decent CTR/CPC but my CR has dropped massively (last 2 days 0 conversions).

Unsure if I may have cut the wrong placements? Also noticed placements that were converting before are no longer converting.

I think I may have done something wrong somewhere along the line as this campaign was profitable for 4-5 days

I'd get some variations for my best banners to try and push the CTR up.

Another thing I'd try is to isolate the good placements, and find out what the CR for those placements are and increase my bid a little about my CR - maybe in a dedicated campaign JUST for that placement?

Ie: placement is converting at 10%, you are getting paid $4 payout - so you can move your bid up to 0.44$ - then see what happens -

as caurmen said you might see a jump in CR as u get more volume if the placement is solid, if not, then you can still work on your banners to go up to profitability

as a generule rule when a campaign is -20, -30% trying different creatives/variations can bump it up - i've had it happen, not one, not twice, but 100s of times

Ok so another update. I had another look at my conversions and noticed they had all come from windows phones. Cut andriod and iOS and as if by magic +ROI again!!

Still have the same problem as before since windows phones were receiving the fewest impressions yet were the only OS to convert.

You should investigate why Windows-based phones are the only ones converting.

If there seems to be no reason for it, you can at least scale to other traffic sources that have plenty of Windows OS traffic.

Yeah, if you find out nuggets of insight like this, you can really do well just by targeting this audience ... especially as it is considered a relatively undesirable audience by most other advertisers.

Just a quick update.

Campaign has been profitable but ROI is dropping. Tried new banners but non have converted as well as the one that are running right now. Also I think the banners running are starting to burn out. They've been running a while now and the audience has probably seen them quite a few times. The best converting banners have no images, small amount of text and a simple call to action.

I think I will need to get this offer converting with android or iOS devices if I want to milk as much profit out of it as I can, or set a campaign up on another traffic source with windows devices (current traffic source is decisive, anyone recommend another?).

Haven't figured out why only windows phones are converting and dying see any reason why android and iOS aren't. Anyone come across this before?

Have you run a test conversion on your own iOS/Android device?

No I haven't. Is there and way I can do this for free? Offer is for Germany so would have to use German phone I imagine.

You just need a VPN service like Overplay, HideMyAss, Astrill, Witopia, etc.

These are cheap and stock standard for any affiliate marketer so I suggest you get a subscription to Overplay (my fav).

maybe your lander looks like shit on android and ios, test it on different devices, also the offer's page

So am I right in thinking I just download the app, sign up, choose a German server and when I open the apps that are converting it should have German ads?

How you use them on your phone depends on the app, but usually you would just follow the instructions provided.

E.g. you go to phone network settings and add VPN details > have to add servers manually, or maybe they have an app, who knows.

And yes, connect to X VPN server, check somehow that your traffic is going through it, then browse apps/sites.
