how to decrease image size?

Hi everyone!

So I'm using photoshop to create images for my wannabe ultra fast mobile landers and I couldn't find a clear tut on how to reduce size. By that I want to decrease the reduce the space in kilobytes the image takes, not the width or height.
Can someone please point me to a good thread/resource on this?

EDIT: I found this : http://www.jpegreducer.com/ seems to get the job done without screwing up quality too much

Thanks!
Dvir

Next to the Edit menu -> there is the "Image" menu, click on it then select "Image Size" and there you can change the image dimensions as you please.

I think OP probably mean file size (not dimension).

File -> Save for Web & Devices..

Choose JPEG or GIF for small file sizes. You can save it here as PNG as well and get better file size results than when you save it the regular way.

You could also try this one, my absolute favorite: https://kraken.io/

I always use Photoshop.
File > Save for web & Devices...
On the right of windows click on the tiny triangle > Optimize to File Size...
Then enter size of the file you want.

Name:	stm1.jpg
Views:	34
Size:	20.4 KB
ID:	3175

Anyway decrease the file size also destroy your picture sharpness. You should use ...
Filter > sharpen
image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast...
etc. before decrease it HTH

Of all the options offered, I'd say that "Save For Web" is currently the most effective if you play around with the settings. But they're all good.

Also, keep an eye on the MozJPG project - Mozilla and Facebook team up to take on the task of making JPGs smaller...
