Hey everyone. Hope you're having a great weekend.
I've read a lot these past days and one thing that was mentioned again and again was the mastery of one type of traffic + traffic source.
I feel like one can and should only read so much and then make a clear decision and move forward with that instead of getting obsessed by analysis paralysis.
My strengths are more on the analytical side, I can definitely code a little bit and throw together a decent interactive lander within a few hours. Although there's still plenty of room for improving, but I'm not afraid of outsourcing as I don't want to become the next webdesign superstar, but make money.
My testing budget is around 5000 euros and I got an account with 50onred.
I've also read quite a bit about PPV and it seems to range from "PPV is dying" to people making thousands a day with it. What seems interesting to me is the fact that you can test relatively cheap and that people who install adware seem kind of predestined to buy/install more/do something else.
So for those of you with more experience and a better overview: What do you think? Is PPV still worth getting into at this point of time?
Looking forward to your replies.
I think there are still lots of opportunities with PPV. We're still seeing lots of publishers generating traffic and growing, with pay per call.
It is a shrinking market, but it's shrinking slowly at this point. It's not a bad place to start and try.
PPV's not the first thing I'd recommend for a newer affiliate, but it can certainly still work.
If you're going to test PPV, make SURE that you have a very fast, responsive server. It's interruption marketing at its most extreme, and you need to grab viewers FAST - which means your page needs to load FAST too.
I don't think it's worth it because you really have only the top 3 PPV traffic sources to deal with. LI's quality has been going down and 50onred doesn't have the volume. That only leaves TrafficVance as an option. If you can even get in to TrafficVance (referral required), do you want to be left with only 1 traffic source to choose from?
Also, as you mentioned it is a shrinking source of traffic. It is shrinking slowly but why learn something that is shrinking instead of something that is growing?
Why I wouldn't recommend PPV initially: some of the sources (notably TrafficVance) are a bit of a pain to get into and have high initial deposits, the market's shrinking rather than growing, a lot of affiliates are already expert in the area, and it needs a well-tuned server.
However, that doesn't make it a bad traffic source - it's just that there are others that I would argue are more friendly to most new affiliates.
However, it's also not a traffic source that I'd say "oh god no, don't do that" about! It can definitely be made to work even nowadays.

Hey Conquer, we have a lot of affiliates still doing $x.xxx per day with finance, dating and vouchers on ppv. Hit me up on skype if you are interested.
I guess every comment has been helpful to conquer and all. I want to tell you that though PPV may be shrinking, it can never go out of market. Just like PPC, it has been here and its still around. The reason why I wouldn't suggest PPV to start with is that it takes a lot of dynamics, high cost and time to be in place, but you can't achieve success if you don't have this. So if your heart is into it, then go for it, learn and scale.
I'm a Newbie and have tested Zeropark PPV for the past few weeks and linking it to YTZ. The traffic quality overall is quite bad but i have got it to work in a few markets. If your try PPV make sure you keep your bid low, below 1c.
PPV is still definitely a viable source of income and big profitable campaigns. The evergreen niches are still going strong, credit/finance/dating/weightloss/skin/surveys/insurance/games
It's definitely still a viable source of traffic. The barriers to entry can be a bit higher than other sources for new affiliates but there is plenty of money being made on it.
Hey Conquer, how did you PPV journey went? Did u had any succes with it?
It is getting harder but it also depends where you are involved with it. The people who own the networks are making money since they are creating a new traffic source. I would recommend looking into building your own network.
