Wich VPN do you use?

Looking for a good monthly price with many countries. I'm on mac os.
I only know about hidemyass but they seem almost too mainstream.
Any opinions?

I'm using AirVPN for around 2 years now. Sufficient amount of countries, very good speed, nice support and pretty good prices.

Hma vpn

Overplay + HMA seem to cover nearly every country for me.

I use astrill and witopia.

astrill I am liking a lot better. more VPN's and they have a mobile app

although if you are switching between a lot, they lock you out over "excessive logging in"

I use Astrill, Witopia and Overplay. I have HMA but I never use it cause it is way too slow. Here is something different that I also use:

http://www.vpngate.net/en/

Its an academic project from University of Tsukuba (Japan). Basically, it's a bunch of free and fast VPN servers from all over the world. Click on 'Download' then click on the link titled "Download SoftEther VPN Client + VPN Gate Client Plugin"

i use Astrill,it is fast and price is ok.

I've always like Overplay above all others. HMA covers the few countries Overplay doesn't have. I have tried Witopia/Astril and liked neither for various reasons.

I use CyberGhost it covers most of the countries I need.

Out of interest, what is it that you all want from a VPN service?

What features/benefits to you value most highly?

For me, I need speed. When I want to test a link I want to find and select a country and connect to a VPN in seconds. I want it to negotiate the connection in ~5s or less generally.

I want to then test my link/page/offer and then disconnect. Throughput throughput throughput.

My second want is coverage. I want all the major countries, but also places like Mexico, Vietnam, Philippines, etc. Overplay covers almost all of the ones I want, but not enough that I could avoid using HMA as well.

What is it that you all want from a VPN service, and what's a deal breaker?

biggest thing for me is speed and coverage. especially when there are multiple servers in a country that I can select.

Astrill has been excellent for that. witopia does suffer a bit on the coverage side, and also some of their VPN's are downright slow. also their interface is a bit of a pain, and buggy

really, not much to complain about for Astrill.

im sorry guys, can anyone explain to me why we need a vpn to spy on mobile?

08-18-2014 09:07 PM #13 zeno (Administrator)

Because you can't view/observe any and all ads and webpages from an IP based in one country.

You know how you target countries when doing advertising? And geo-redirect people with tracking systems?

If you think about it, that precludes a lot of spying doesn't it...

I tried HMA with a friend's account. Downloaded the software both for Mac and PC. Only OpenVPN protocol worked on Mac and it was easily detected by fingerprint websites or softwares. So thats why im looking for something else.

Looking at Astrill now. Seems good. I will try them.

What kind of protocols are you using (OpenWeb, OpenVPN, PPTP, L2TP, Cisco IPSec, L2TP over IPSec,
StealthVPN, SSTP, IKEv2)

I want something deep enough so its very difficult to see me behind. Because I will not only use the VPN for spying but also for avoiding fingerprinting (multi accounts in advertisers for example)

Testing Astrill right now. They have a free 7 days trial. So far its much faster than HMA. What didnt you like about it?

btw, for both witopia and astrill, all of their servers are always constantly slow as crap for Brazil. anyone have any recommendations for a VPN there?

Overplay always as well, nice cheap and easy

Astrill is great for me in general. not all the servers are blazing fast but i've used it to get over the Great Firewall (China) for years now.

After some research started using ExpressVPN because HMA has been slow as fuark lately. It's a bit more expensive than HMA by a few bucks but so far has been way faster in the international and tier 3 geos. Also has this awesome speed test function that tests all the servers lets you know location is fastest for your current connection. Great if your using a VPN for all your general surfing (or downloading torrents).

If anyone wants a VPN to be fast for streaming etc the best way is to get a $5 or $10 VPS and install openvpn on it.

Have tried a few like Overplay and HMA. I like HMA, at least for quick and easy viewing

HMA, been with them a while, they have android and iphone apps so makes it easy to check things on a device, and is pretty quick

I like HMA because it has the coverage I need, it has OK connection speeds and the mobile app makes it easy to spy on mobile placements (and you don't have to set a password on your Android just for setting up a proxy).

So, those would be my main points for choosing a VPN.
