Voluum cost data
Is there any way to upload cost data to Voluum? It seems to not be able to track smart CPM or upload the cost data from Decisive manually. Or if it can, I have not been able to find a way to do it.

Nope.
Well, not yet.

So do you just guess initially? Or let it run without tracking costs to get an idea of how much the smart CPM price will be? It sounds like they have it in the works but it sounds like a pretty major oversight...

I would set an average CPC at the start then edit with time.
Each day you can just set it to the average over the past for that campaign and it takes that value from then on.
It's not perfect for sure but no tracking system ever will be with manual costs - and traffic sources are simply unlikely to pass cost data.
The cost report upload is great but not easy either, since not all traffic sources will provide this data in the most digestible way.
I agree though, it is an oversight on an important issue, but not a deal breaker - especially with traffic sources supporting revenue tracking more and more often.

Yes that kind of brings me to question whether Voluum (or any interstitial tracking) is needed at all with self-serve sources such as Decisive. They are the only mobile traffic source I have run as of yet but it seems kind of superfluous to have both Descisive and Voluum tracking clicks unless it is for security and verification.

Maybe you can also comment on this as well, passing costs as a subid seems like it would be trivial to implement and I have wondered why it isn't done. It would leave you open to some sniffing and advanced campaign manipulation from some of the more tech savvy affiliates but in general it seems like it would be a huge win for self-serve providers to support. I suppose if you really wanted to get technical you could have your tracker and traffic source exchange keys to allow for full crypto but that is getting off in the weeds a bit.

@t0mmy - the major reason to run Voluum with Decisive if you're just running Decisive is to be able to split-test landers, which is something that Decisive's systems can't track.

There are plenty of reasons to use the tracker
- Split - testing landing pages
- Detailed conversion information (best hours the campaigns convert at, tracking carrier / custom variables conversions)
- Keeping traffic sources honest (what happens if your Voluum is showing you're receiving a lot of bot traffic?)
- etc.
You're at a disadvantage by not using a tracker.

What NGO said.
If you don't use a tracker you will be leaving money on the table since you won't be able to see all the data.

May I ask how do we discover the traffic is bot traffic in Voluum? What are the characteristics of not traffics. Thanks for your advice

Similar IPs and IP ranges.
No conversions.
100% CTRs or higher from repeat clicking.
Questionable carrier/ISPs or all coming from the same one.

I'm going to be doing a case study on detecting bot traffic in the very near future - stay tuned.
