Over the past year and a half we've had some great success with some of the larger traffic sources, but now it's time to figure out mobile. I've tested out traffic sources such as Decisive, InMobi and LeadBolt, but I've never had any success. This follow along will serve to keep myself accountable, but more importantly, to get some feedback from the pros. I read through Caurmen's mobile cookbook guide, http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...006#post154006 and it's given me some good ideas.
To start, I'll be testing out Decisive, running Android apps, running traffic to undisclosed ad networks, using
Looking forward to seeing how the transition works for you guys. Cheers!
I got scared when i read this "WARNING! YOUR PHONE HAS A VIRUS!"
haha
I'll post some data from ads that I ran yesterday. I paused everything because it's massively unprofitable, but I still have to analyze my data and see if any of it is useful.
Traffic source: Decisive
Offer: Onavo
Country: Spain
I created 8 campaigns. Each campaign used 10 identical banners. I broke down the targeting as follows:
Angle1 - mobile - site
angle1 - mobile - app
angle1 - wifi - site
angle1 - wifi app
(And the same for angle 2)
Angle 1 ad copy:
Save Money On Cellular Data! FREE!
Angle 2 ad copy:
You're Wasting Data! Fix Now!
Below are screenshots of my ads and data
Data from past 7 days:

Banners:

Payout for the offer is $1.60 so it looks like one of my ads is profitable (but only 1 conversion so insignificant data). keep in mind that the other 7 campaigns have 0 conversions. Need to read through Caurmen's guide again and let my ads spend some more money. Any feedback on my banners is welcome. I made them myself
Mike.. I guess you have used google translate from EN - ES. The ad copy doesn't make any sense in Spanish (I'm Spanish, so I should know)... The add is saying something like "YOU are wasting information, fix it now" with a sense of accusation, no wonder the CTR is so low. I'm afraid there's no easy way to say 'you're wasting' data in 2 words in Spanish. Try to use translators from onehourtranslation or fiverr. If the stuff above was done by a translator.. ask for your money back.
Hey there
At first I thought this was an anti virus campaign and then I realized you are promoting onavo which is a mobile utility app.
Maybe you can hire someone from fiverr to translate for you. I got mine done in a few hours for 200 words. That's about 10 banners and a lander for 5 bucks.
Maybe you can try something like 20% reduced phone bills? Those weird numbers seem to catch attention.
Are those stats aggregated across all your campaigns, or just from one sample campaign?
I did use onehourtranslation for these. I'll leave the translator a negative review and ask for my money back.
Caurmen - yes, these are aggregated across all campaigns. 4 campaigns have these banners, and the other 4 have the same designs but the ad copy says this: ¡Ahorra Dinero En Datos Móviles! ¡GRATIS!
Mike, is Onavo a solid performer?
In mobile there are so many variables that will determine profitability. The less of them you have to test out the better.
So make sure you are running an offer that does volume first on the network and only after start testing banners / landers.
bbrock32: Onavo isn't necessarily the best offer, but we've run it profitable on other traffic sources so I figured it was worth testing. We used to run Clean Master and Speed Booster at huge volume on other networks but the payouts were really low (around $0.35 or whatever it was). It's hard to find mobile offers with high payouts that actually perform well.

Ah, thoughts so.
Best to show stats for each campaign - the four options are so very different that aggregating stats will just give you confusing results.
That ad copy says something like: "You're wasting data, fix it now!" which doesn't make sense in Spanish, even for Latin America.
