One weird trick to quick & easy landing pages
It will shock you
While I don't have much campaign experience - I do have a good amount of time under my belt on the creative side of things. As a full time designer and developer, it is easy for me to overlook the trouble that many affiliates, especially newcomers, have with when it comes to landing pages. This line of work has such a high learning curve and it seems as if landing pages are usually last on the list of things to learn. I am hoping that together we can come up with some solutions to lessen that learning curve.
SO - It doesn't matter if your full time, or just joined today - share all of your landing page troubles!
- Do you hate the creative process? No inspiration or new ideas?
- Don't know how to code?
- You know how to code but cant code for mobile?
- Have trouble hosting and keeping track of files?
- Cant find a reliable outsourcer?
- Is your freelancer turn-around time too long?
- Simply don't have enough time or money?
- Etc, Etc, Etc......
PS. I don't intend for this to be a technical Q&A; I am just looking for people to share what troubles them the most when it comes to landing pages.

Yes and Yes. Seems like no matter how many I hire and give small jobs just to keep them hungry and on the ready, I can never get any of them when I need them. Best one I have costs me 3x what the rest charge, but it's money well spent.

For me cross browser compatibility and fixing small bugs in the way things display is the WORST!!

It's hard to find someone worthy to outsource the creative process to, so I usually have a pretty good outline for what I want creatively before shipping it out.

I think its a catch 22 when it comes to dealing with a large majority of freelancers. I cant speak for all, but most seem to have high hopes of landing big jobs and turn away the smaller and consistent work. On the contrary, there are people who will take all of this small work but it becomes so cut-throat with pricing that quality is usually overlooked.
I would focus on dealing with someone experienced in this industry so that they understand your needs of quality and time.

Is this typically on projects that
you code or code that was supplied from someone else?

This kind of goes hand in hand with the first quote. Unfortunately it comes down to sorting through people and testing them with small projects. This costs time and money but there
are diamonds in the rough who can produce some great work. The other route is to go to the top and hire the people with the strong portfolio and track record; but that usually comes with a pretty price tag.
I think if you provide as much as you possibly can - images, copy, angles, framework, etc. - the easier (and hopefully cheaper) it will be. As silly as this sounds, the less creative they have to be, the more likely your going to get what your looking for.

www.drumbauskas.com is some of my student work from a couple years back. It hasn't been updated since and was one of my first web projects. In school I focused mostly on branding and motion graphics - since then I've been focusing on web and mobile UI. I was lucky enough to be picked for the top 100 student portfolios of 2012 by the
Art Directors Club.
www.designlabnj.com is my offline business. I provide all aspects of design, print, web and marketing for local businesses around the tri-state area. I haven't gotten around to putting up client work but ill put together some projects to share here.

Hey Dennis - My intention was not to mislead, my title was just a play on words of some ads I see floating around. Plus I'm trying to brush up on my copywriting skills
My intention is to learn and better understand the struggles that everyday affiliates have when it comes to landing pages. I look at this piece of the puzzle (landers) with blinders on because of my background of building pretty websites. I know that there is much more to it then that and by hearing what everyone has to say, I can help others and learn what I should be doing at the same time.

While this is true, no business will be profitable without successfully solving their customers problems. I happily pay my $99 subscription to STM because they are helping me solve a whole bunch of those problems.

Hi dan0788,
Sorry. Don't misunderstand me. I would be happy to share with you any problems if I had them with LP.
I really hope you get very good insights from this thread and I will add any problem I have with LPs when they appear.
Just give us a discount in the future :P
Kind regards,

Media queries. Bloody media queries, attempting to get 75 different models of phone which appear to have 150 different screen sizes to all display the landing page correctly, usually without full access to the model of phone in question.
It boggles my mind there's still no good GUI / automated solution to this.
It feels like 2000 keeps calling and demanding its ugly table hacks and cross-browser issues back.
If you can supply a faster way to do that, I will cheerfully send money in your general direction.

Finding a reliable programmer who i can count on a few times a month. I don't need someone fulltime and finding someone who is easy to communicate with for a couple hundred a month seems to be impossible.

I've been trying to figure something out, figure out the relationship between device pixel ratios, resolution & element size and come up with some kind of formula where you can work off a base size and scale up for varying css pixel sizes, surely there's some formula to be figured out
