Here's the deal -- sneaky thing most users don't know about getresponse,
but once they do - it's late...
We had an account with getresponse which we paid like $2k a year something like that.
Couple days ago we upgraded it, and I did one mini launch -- actually the one I wrote about in my recent posts.
So I mailed biggest launch of all - and what they did --
without a warning, without any notice in the 6 months of them being happy with us -- they shut down our account
but not in a human way.
They disabled all -- links I used in the promos I sent out!
My access to the panel to download contacts and emails (for contacts I had to email but for autoresponders, no much help)
When you contact their chat support - there are idiots who can't do anything about compliance.
Compliance answers emails within 3 days and no way to reach them on the phone.
And it is bureaucratic -- like you have to go back and forth with them and each reply takes 3 days approx.
While you're losing money.
So - consider going somewhere where you know you can reach the key person to help you with your account and not be just disabled out of blue.
And just to feel better: FUCK YOU GETRESPONSE!
If anyone has a way to reach their management by phone -- contact me -- not sure it will help, but the situation is currently active and above given are facts.
Money lost by links disabled from the launch are a lesson, not to use third party tracking also.
Yeah this can happen with any of the major email platforms - getresponse, aweber, mailchimp, etc. You should be exporting and backing up your lists pretty much daily if you are doing any volume or mailing anything that could even slightly toe the line on the TOS. Like most ad networks, the TOS is open to interpretation by the rep you are currently dealing with. Or worse, an automated system.
there's some really good posts around the web about setting up your own mail server. that's probably your best option for non-compliant stuff I'd think, especially if you have a large budget.
I've gotten 25 accounts banned from Get Response. They don't care about past history that much, if you hit certain metrics that flag your account they will just ban you. One thing you can do is request your list from them and they will usually give it to you. I've had no luck getting a banned account, unbanned though. Despite all that it's still my go to ESP since their deliverability is pretty good.
Someone mentioned that anyone is like that -- it's not true -- for example, mailchimp tells us they don't like it - but still let us compile contacts, access the interface and they definitely do NOT block links of already sent emails!
Getresponse failed miserably when it comes to caring about customers, and yes, agreed with posts above - it is ironic they call themselves get response when you can't get a response from their team that isn't robotic copy paste.
Anyway, lesson learned, moving to custom solution or to some company that actually cares for their paying clients.
First trafficfactory, then getresponse, all liars and cheaters, you really got it bad while doing nothing wrong by yourself of course ...
I have had problems myself with Getresponse and i know my collegues and friends too have the same experience with them.
GETRESPONSE is NEVER wrong. NEVER. Even they are wrong, they will not be wrong.
Getresponse is NEVER wrong or it's just system and that why they can not help You.
There is so much ILLOGICAL things You can hear from them. Totally illogical.
From year to year, nothing changes there.
So, be prepared for this when You have account there.
p.s.
I think when they got attacked some time ago for few weeks by someone, who was not anymore interested to hear all illogical things they tell or that they can not do anything.
p.s.
If i would be the owner of such service, perhaps its the only way to work.. WHO KNOWS.... !
Pay some filipino programmers a bunch of money and make your own custom mailplatform with mandrillapp.com as a backend.
The trick to do massive volume is to use the feature 'MERGE VARS'.
I've had mine programmed for 1.5k dollar and it can send about 200 000 mails per hour.
It's very custom, so I'm not willing to share... but this might be a solution to your future problems.
And it's frickin' cheap.
I recommend the following:
1. ARPreach, a self hosted email script. The feature set is richer than Getresponse by the way (I also transitioned away from getresponse) http://arpreach.com/
2. Third-party email server that connects to ARPreach and delivers your emails for you. I use Amazon SES, the cost is $.10 per 1000 emails. Other options are SMTP.com, mailjet, and a bunch of others.
Deliverability rates are quite high across the services, basically the same thing as Aweber or Getresponse.
When I first looked into self hosted email scripts it didn't feel right, I thought I'd be giving up deliverability or "risking my list." Now that I've actually used ARPreach, I'm very glad I made the switch. By the way, there are guys on fiver who will set everything up for you.
With that set up pockets, would you need a decent server to push 50,000 emails a day, or just a small VPS fine?
My copy of ARPreach is installed on shared hosting. It's Amazon SES that does the heavy lifting for me.
Yep, I've heard good things about Mandrill too. Definitely worth a look if you can find someone to do the coding side of things, or can do it yourself.
(I have a minor project I want to do with Mandrill when I get the time, and we're using it to a limited extent on ZEN too.)
Thank you guys.
Mandrill - I don't quite understand what that is -- but Amazon SES looks promising. Any downsides?
How many emails an hour you're able to send out that way?
Mandrill is another email sending service. It apparently has generally higher deliverability than Amazon SES, but they're basically the same type of service.
From my research over the last three days:
Best STMP for my affiliate marketing:
Sendgrind 0.10/1000 emails. Meant to be a lot more friendly than amazon. Haven't done any research on Mandrid but there cost looks to be a lot more expensive than sendgrid.
Self hosted program:
interspire. Has an API, ARPreach has promised an API for quite some time and seems there support forum goes unanswered
For these kinds of decisions I would listen closely to the advice of folks who do big numbers in email.
There are a lot of subtleties and nuances about email services that you can't gauge from platform websites, info and pricings.
I agree - do you have anyone to recommend? I'm following now pocket's advice to the letter - arpreach and amazon -- if it doesn't work I'll kick his ass
(thx pockets!)
Your right zeno, most of my research was actually done by reading the entire stm email forum and it seemed they were the advice's most given out
