Hi guys I'm new to STM and this is my very 1st post!!
Ill keep it short and sweet. I've got a limited budget of £1000 (around $1700) to get started running campaigns. I know it's not much, especially to start with mobile, but i thought I'd ask at least.
I've signed up for POF ads and F5media along with decisive.is and looking to start somewhere. Only question is where? Should i start with POF or mobile?
And advice or recommendations are welcome.
Hopefully this helps:
Mobile overall is a LOT bigger and requires much more $ to test... BUT:
- If you focus on a few campaigns all with payouts under $3, and really narrow down the best offers by hounding your AMs. Then you can defintiely start mobile this way with £1000.
POF
- Will be cheaper to test, but it's a pretty busy area to start with. Lots of competition.
Here's what i would do.
Get 1 campaign on POF and 1 on decisive. Spend $50 on each. You'll be leaning to 1 by the end of both campaigns.
$1700 is decent for POF for sure, mobile its possible but still kinda low. Like stack said try that and see which one you enjoy more, then follow it
Thanks for the input guys. Will keep you posted and start a follow along when they're up and running
Nice man best of luck with it all
I think $1700 on mobile is enough for testing and finding a profitable campaign when you follow the advise of Stackman. The tricky bit is that when you find a winner you probably have to feed your traffic source with >$700 per week and it would really suck if your budget is nearly done and the next payment is 4 weeks away. So just keep in mind that you need cash flow for when you are profitable and able to scale
Just thought I'd ask also if I should use the 110x80 ads or the 310x110 in my POF campaign?
it really depends, 110x80 are quicker and easier to set up and you can use the PoF dynamic tags, but theres a lot of competition, 310x110 is a blank canvas for creativity and it seems there's a lot less competition (at least in terms of people using them) but you can't use the tags
With that budget I would go with POF.
You can still make mobile work if you are lucky but in most cases it wont' be enough.
If POF I would test the 110x80 to gather some quick data.
OK guys I've decided to go with POF and I've emailed Jaimmie at F5 for a few offers. BenPOF mentioned in another post about cheap UK traffic and since thats where I'm from I've decided to target the UK.
Jaimmie got back to me with a few offers
ChineseLove - SOI $5.52
Dating Agency - SOI 41+ $3
DreamLoveDate - SOI 25+ $4.08
Just Singles - SOI 30+ $3
Russian Brides - SOI $4
Anyone have any experience with these offers? With the advice already given i feel i should steer clear of the higher paying offers and maybe run Just Singles or Dating Agency. Also since these offers are more generic and not focusing on just dating Chinese girls or Russian girls they may allow for more angles?
If you're going to run any of the overseas brides offers, pay careful attention to your targeting. Those convert best with older guys with high incomes - advertising broad with them is usually not effective.
Ok so decided to go with ChineseLove and target high earning older men in the UK. Just waiting for creatives to be approved and get some data. Will update when i have some data
Just a quick update. Still waiting on my ads bring approved. Seems like a long time to wait, all set up on Friday and thought they might be up that day but Monday evening and still not approved. Is this the usual waiting time? Complete newbie so no sure if this is normal. I totally understand that people get the weekend off so that still leaves most of Friday and all of today for my ads to be approved.
Today is a holiday in Canada. POF is in Vancouver and works Monday - Friday.
Normally, ads are approved same day, or within 12 business hours at most.
I think that the real problem with this budget will be to reach stable $1K limit with affiliate network to move on weekly payment plan and net3.
stable cash-flow will be your big problem in first few weeks.
Ok so just a quick update. My ads have been approved and I've ran the campaign for a week now.
I've had 37,000 impressions and 10 clicks, no conversions. Some of my ads got no clicks while the best of that bunch got 6 (0.07% CTR)
Problem is I'm not getting anywhere near the volume I thought, some days I'm struggling to spend $2! Could this be down to targeting to specific? I'm currently targeting men 45-50, single, in the UK. Should I set up another campaign targeting another age group?
As for ads I plan to keep the copy that performed well and try it with new images, also try and find more angles that perform well and use the image from the best performing ad. Is this how to go about it?
Thanks again for and help guys.
Narrow less? Can you explain a bit more?
I'd split-test in 5 year age groups across the entire plausible range of your offer (probably 40+, maybe 35+) - that'll give you a quicker picture of what will work.
Any additional specific details on what kind of ads and angles?

This is the best performing ad and the best angle so far
And how exactly are you targeting?
Show us.
There will likely be some things you can readily change to get more volume.
