Hey guys,
I understand with mobile, we are always encouraged to try for the smallest possible file size for banners. However, is there a recommended size that we can adhere to? Say for 320x50 banners, should they be 10k or less? or perhaps 15k? I'm trying to find a good balance between image quality and file size, and knowing what the recommended limits are will allow me to tweak my banners accordingly. What would you say is the maximum size that no mobile banner should ever cross? Thanks for the help guys.. much apprieciated.
It's not particularly critical. I actually ran a test on this a while ago - smaller banners produce slightly higher CTR sometimes, but it's not terribly significant.
Honestly, keep it under 50k and you should be fine. 10k is certainly very acceptable.
(And yes, I will get back to doing follow-up tests on that when I get a chance!)
Also, depending on the network, there often is a max file size for ads. Some of which are just rediculous but ok.
My experience is that specific verticals need more 'fancy' graphics which turns out to bigger file sizes.
In one of caurmen's case studies i replied that i prefer the PNG format. Especially when the ad contains text. These files have quite some weight to them but i like their performance on mobile.
Under 50kb should be good.
