Newbie MoboGenie Campaign

Hello there,

I will be stripping this campaign completely naked with all my stuff, at least until I see a need to hide, I don't know anything right now and I don't know how its going to work out. Hope it becomes a very interesting science experiment.

Offer - Mobogenie Market
Aff network - Avazu (this offer is on many other affiliate networks i believe)
payout- US0.40
Target Country - India (seems to be able to expand to other countries maybe?)
Target Platform - Android
CPM bid - $0.30
Ad network - Decisive
Landing page - Direct Linking, and prelander provided by avazu
daily budget - US10

offer choice analysis - ok im here to learn, and im on a tight budget. i want to get the systems right fast on a low budget and make profit. the systems here are supposed to be scalable to other campaigns right? mobogenie seems to be available on most affiliate network platforms and bringing in revenue for a long time. while offers will always die out, i want something that has a better chance of dying out later, since i want to run as many "learning cycles" before it crashes on me. and being on multiple affiliate networks allow me to split-test the offer (i am still figuring out what this means but apparently this form of testing can be done when i have multiple offers??). the payout being low means my starting budget can be as low as possible too. so 15 conversions on each campaign (total of 4) At a -50% roi daily is going to cost me USD25 per day. not sure what the real ROI is really, even if i lose everything its going to be US50 per day, still an affordable price to pay for information. apparently this offer seems to be available on many countries as well, which means if i can make it work in one country, perhaps the same learning process can be applied on another?

apparently mobogenie is very popular in india, its started there and targets there but yet managed by chinese? lols. and also there seems to be some marketing done in the newspaper

campaign 2 14072014 testrun1

a quick research on mobogenie shows that its a.... kind of integrated platform where they serve
1. free music
2. apps
3. movies

a deeper study into the reviews on google play store reveals in no order of merit

benefits
1. free music
2. free movies
3. paid apps on google play available for free here
4. better than google play
5. faster downloads than google play
6. many apps

complaints
1. spammy advertisements
2. too many advertisements

angle development

angle being worked on right now - angle 2 get top games not on Google Play Store >>> i realized some of my creatives at the end did not exactly follow this angle, ran out of ideas, but anyway I'm going ahead to test it

creatives worked out for angle 2 (well its kind of crappy but lets see how it works out)

put all these banners on decisive, awaiting approval, see what happens, in the mean time ill probably work on the other angles, and research more on why people use mobogenie and perhaps come up with a few more angles. maybe forums reviewing mobogenie in india?

I like the way you are approaching this campaign with new angles.

The games one looks good, maybe I would try to make banners and CTAs stand out a bit more.

Keep us updated as you gather data!

Sience Mobogenie limited thier geo target , there isn't good time for me to promote this offer ; )

Limited their geo target? You might want to check out a few different affiliate networks. I seen this same offer being offered in many countries and also internationally, maybe at a slightly lower pay out. Are we looking at the same offer? I thought they actually increased their countries?

err not sure whether this is a good thing or not, i did not test the mobogenie link until my ad got rejected by inmobi for failure to produce landing page. because this is a direct apk download. the last time i had to download a apk file, i had to access something in my phone to unlock and allow apk installs, where my phone warned me that this could potentially harm my phone. i definitely will not download anything that i do not absolutely trust. maybe thats why the conversion for this is so low? but yet this offer is available on so many affiliate networks and is one of the top converting offers... how did they do it? maybe someone can shed some light, perhaps they have a landing page? but this offer is only 40 cents, a landing page for this? errrr....

i also went ahead to develop another angle5 on free music downloads and here are the banners

all these creatives have been approved and are running on decisive, will report on them once i collect some data.

Call to Action.

Usually in the forum of button or links.

Like the one you have that says download. Or browse. Etc.

Make it more stand out or eye catching or intriguing.

angle2 - get games not on google store
bids - 258165
wins - 143976
clicks - 854 (0.6% CTR)
total spend - 35.26
total revenue - 0.40
total number of conversions - 1
ROI - -99%

angle5 - (2 sets got rejected, so only 2 ran) free music download
bids - 124436
wins - 68716
clicks - 532 (CTR 0.77%)
total spend - 17.14
total conversions - 2
total revenue - 0.80
ROI - -95%

other observations
1. CTR was higher for sites rather than apps for this 320x50 banner regardless of connection being mobile or wifi. site is around 0.8% CTR while app was 0.40% CTR
2. no observable differences due to small sample size between mobile and wifi connection
3. angle 5 SEEMS TO BE better. i mean it has slightly higher CTR and slightly better conversions, but sample size is small so i will not be too quick to conclude.
4. CPC for sites is around 3 cents while CPC for apps is double at around 6 cents
5. the DIRECT APK download had 2 conversions while the prelander had 1 conversion, not useful at this point in time due to the low sample sizes, and anyway i cannot use the direct APK downloads because thats the exact reason my ads got rejected at both decisive and at inmobi

personal notes

1. failed to track conversions back to decisive, therefore i am unable to blacklist sites because i dont know which one is converting or not. i have resolved this with decisive and Voluum tracking to ensure that i track which click is converting (not sure if i did it right though), this is how the link looks like when its posted in decisive
- http://track.onemoremark.com/5426a4ee-da0c-4791-b5c9-fe16ed9636a9?media={{{media}}}&app={{{app}}}&site= {{{site}}}&placement={{{placement}}}&cat={{{cat}}} &device={{{device}}}&isp={{{carrier}}}&os={{{os_ve rsion}}}&cid={{{creative_id}}}&adid={{{ad_id}}}&bi dhash={{{bidhash}}}
and this is the post back from Voluum to decisive? -- http://win.crwd.io/convert/{externalid}

2. apk downloads are NOT NOT ALLOWED and in fact this has been listed in the mobile cookbook which i failed to ensure before i started the mobogenie campaign. this also caused my inmobi ads to be rejected. as such i have 2 possible options
a. change an offer to one that directly links to play store?
b. create a lander for the apk download? im not sure if this is allowed, im in the process of checking with decisive and inmobi. i guess creating a lander is part and parcel of AM, its either sooner or later so i might as well learn to do it

3. i have removed the direct APK download, this has 2/3 of conversions so it might adversely affect results. anyway i gotta use a lander, this is the default one they gave, my guess is its definitely going to lose alot of clicks because its not related to my angle5 which is free music, and then u come here and it says andriod store?
http://www.mobogenie.com/en/landingpage/market.html?media=122140727&c=3603_{aff_id}_{traff ic_source_id}

probably have to create one that is related to "Free music"

other thoughts
i am thinking if i should try to outsource a part of my work? for example my friend recommended me a banner creation specialist. obviously his banners are much more "professional" but hey hes still going to take instructions from me forever because this is marketing after all. he could save me maybe 2-3 hours? but i got to pay like US100 or something and i make must about the same amount when i play poker for that time. i guess this is something i should delay a little, but definitely consider. i must know how to create at least 80% of what a "specialist" can create so i know whats happening before i start outsourcing.

action steps
1. come back to blacklist apps/sites which spend more than 33% of budget with no conversions.
2. create one animated banner using

Don't outsource right now. It's vital you learn how to do this stuff yourself so that a) you're not 100% reliant on other people and b) you can tell when they're doing it well or badly.

The tracking setup looks good!

I'd definitely recommend running a lander with Mobogenie. It means you can run it on more traffic sources (no more direct download issues) and also means that you can presell the necessary steps to install it.
