India Mobile Classified

Hi,

Ill be sharing most of the things I do here, to hopefully get some advice from the professionals on where I possibly could do better.

my previous food and beverage business selling beancurd was named Quik Snack, so im a sucker for this name Quikr =D

offer study - apparently this offer is getting around 500 conversions, both on neverblue and avazu, is that supposed to be alot or very little conversions? i am seeing a 15% CR here, and its the non incent one. maybe someone could make this work and so can i?

budget - ???
Not sure here to be honest, I have around US200 on different ad networks, around a total of US500 to spare at the moment. any more ill have to do more work to get $$$

OFFER - Quikr IN Andriod CPI
The offer I am promoting is Quikr IN Android from Avazu exchange. apparently the CR is 5%, which is below the 11% on the incentive version, although the payout is twice as much at $0.60 . a quick search on other affiliate networks show that this is available also on clickdealer but its an incent version at $0.38 payout. I am unable to contact the affiliate manager there so... oh well.

Traffic Source - Decisive
deposited US100 into decisive, started using the standard banners here to try out, apparently not getting any impressions, something like a total of 700 impressions over 2-3 days? maybe i selected something wrongly? i noticed the banner sizes i used are not the most popular, at 300x50 and 300x250, which are getting around 3million impressions daily. while the 320x50 one which i did not use is getting 150 million impressions. thats 50x difference. that's my punishment for not watching the tutorial since day one. i only watched it yesterday.

these are the 2 standard ads I'm using just to test out the decisive platform, and I'm working on my banners

a quick research into this offer shows

1. the users here are male graduates
2. the entire website on quikr is in english, not sure whether i have to convert to hindi? and where to find someone to translate for me?
3. alexa search shows the sites linking in are mostly classified sites, so im guessing people who are here are already intending to sell something like a mobile phone, car, home etc.

questions to ponder over
1. the ad networks i have are unrelated to classifieds??? somehow the people who go to quikr are searching to sell something specifically. how am i going to use a adnetwork to do that? arnt the traffic from games and all those thrashy apps? since im still early in this phase maybe i should switch an offer? i know the general advice is to stick to one offer, but this offer does not seem to be offered on most affilaite networks although its getting good volume, and a specific target like graduates sounds a little daunting?

2. maybe i can find somewhere more related? for example i saw someone doing media buys on a website that targets his specific group, maybe i can buy a space specifically visited by Indian graduates who are trying to sell their mobile phones? but then thats not what my friends are doing, they are using ad networks.

outstanding actions to take

1. learn how to use photoshop to make a 320x50 banner to use on decisive

lets try to work out a budget here, according to http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...ghlight=payout

at -50% roi, im guessing any campaign will take around 15 conversions, ill get paid 60 cents on this offer, meaning i lose 60 cents and thats around 9 dollars per run, i set my budget at 10. i plan to have 10 banners at one go, im new so i guess im going to be slower at producing these kind of arty stuff. still dont know what split testing is about, somehow it increases the budget. this offer only runs on one affilaite network so i cannot split test. and what is an "angle"?

for sure im going on cheap offers and whatever is allowed on a lower budget. and if 10 cents payout is going to give me a lower working budget ill go to that but wouldn't that offer be impossible to even breakeven given the sheer price on the clicks?

You'll definitely get volume once you switch to 320x50s - you're absolutely correct, that's the reason you're not seeing volume yet.

I'd strongly recommend that you start to test custom ads, and more than one at once. Follow the Appetiser program - test at least 6 very different ads.

Decisive's a bit tricky for classified ad apps, but it can work. You'll need to narrow down the placements, probably, and find a solid angle - don't focus on the feature (classified ads), focus on the benefits (get money, buy a specific thing you want, buy a thing that's popular in India cheap, etc). It's all going to be in the angle.

hi,

created some 320x50 banners for the angle "make money on unwanted stuff"

banner1

banner2

banner3

banner4

banner5

banner6

and here are the results

to be honest im absolutely confused about whats happening or what to do. would greatly appreciate some feedback. i can see that there is one clear conclusion and that is banner 3 is doing better, but im not sure why, maybe because i hit on a "wrath" angle? making people feel emotional about their "useless stuff"??

what other information is useful to help to find out what has been done right and what can be improved?

What's your sample size there? In other words, how many impressions did you run each of those for?

Remember, CTR is not that important in the grand scheme of things - you need it to keep your cost per click down, but CVR is the thing that's really critical.

I got around 800 clicks, 1 conversion of this offer, 1 redirect converted???

That's around 80-100k impressions, evenly distributed about 20k impressions each.

Total spend here is around usd40

Why do you suppose certain banners got a higher CTR? How was the messaging/design similar from the ones that underperformed? Why dont you cut out mobile and keep just wifi?

Just cutting out the bad banners will give you 5x as many clicks to work data from in the same amount of spend when you go at things the next round. Hope that helps.

the only conclusive evidence seems to be that banner 3 is performing better, maybe because it hit on a "pain point" instead of direct selling the product or benefit? maybe i can go on the 7sins angle to hit more pain points?

banners 4 5 and 6 seems a little too direct, sell your phone, i dont think they are too different, maybe they need something more refreshing? and striking?

banner 2 says find out, maybe thats not strong enough a CTA. should use install, download. click here?

my only one conversion came from the mobile site... im not sure what that means. probably inconclusive.

one thing for sure though mobile app was ALWAYS producing lower CTR (conversions not tracked) across this campaign and the mobogenie campaign.

sites generally seem to have higher CTR.

next round would be a different angle wouldnt it? since this angle is not worth optimizing at my current ability level. unless i redo this angle from a different perspective maybe using the 7 sins?

Yep, I'd do a new angle at this point. Take what you've learned - you do have enough data to be significant - and start a new angle over.

07-23-2014 11:08 AM #12 acepowermarketing (AMC Alumnus)

the new angle ill be working on is --- get a job and the guide ill be using to help brainstorm the new angle will be the 7 sins. i have noticed that many websites (p0rn) seems to be utilizing this. must work right? lets test it

next i realised many people are telling me that converting english to hindi really improves conversions, so right now im in the process of translating 78 words into hindi before i start making the banners.

most people end up having landing pages and apparently that helps.... i don't know how to make one but i guess i have to so now im learning how to use adobe muse. there is also another dreamweaver but thats meant for high level programmers, while muse is meant for newbies who just want the page done and does not allow coding and the advanced stuff.

some new updates

just got curious and decided to check out the sites that decisive was getting traffic from and learnt a few things

1. the banners that were there, somehow matched with the better performing banners of those in my mastermind group. this means that somehow this "group" of banners seem to work better, but exactly how does it cater to the needs of the india people???

2. the banners were mainly targeted with the angle of speed, for example antivirus is targeted at >>> phone is slow??? or something like 32 viruses on your phone, i believe the implied message there is remove virus>>> faster phone

3. the direct apk downloads from mobogenie first posed me a problem because decisive did not accept apk downloads. a quick look shows that some of the ads have 2 landing pages, one to tell u mobogenie is great, and the other gives u directions on how to download it. it specifically states that there will be a warning that says oh this might compromise security on your phone, i believe that would improve conversions and ill try it out.

3. for every 20-30 sites i visit, ill find a interesting one with different ads, i saved them all to review later

4. most of the people that are having better roi somehow are not using the decisive network, they are using other stuff like airpush tapit leadbolt etc, maybe i should try them too?
