Mobile Banner collections / swipes

Hi guys

I know that I suck hopelessly on banner creation in terms of design, mostly.

So I looked around in the forum but apart from very few posts, I could not find much to swipe from.

Any hints on what are the best places to get ideas for banners, maybe download templates, to start building a swipe / idea collection?

Simple: use your actual mobile device and browse sites and/or install apps, then use a VPN to change your IP.

There are services that offer mobile competitive intelligence but there really is no reason to not just spy yourself!

Zeno, if we only have iOS, would it be worth trying to pick up a cheap/used android device to do spying?

How to Spy on a Budget – Attila’s step by step guide!

1. Get the HMA Pro app installed on your phone, fill in your login credentials (user/pass)
2. Pick the GEO you want to spy on (ie Malaysia) and connect via the HMA Pro app to get a malaysian IP address.
3. Fire up Google Play, and look at the top free apps – download a bunch of apps & games preferably from each category
4. Open each app, and WAIT – it takes a few seconds for a banner to show. Click it, see what happens! Take a screenshot to document the creative.

TIP: The easiest way to take a screenshot on Android 4.0 and above is to simply press and hold your phone’s power and volume down button at the same time for 1-2 seconds.

PS: Android phone necessary, sorry iPhoners

Sure, why not.

As a mobile marketer I think having an iOS and Android devices for testing conversion flows is a very practical business investment, and certainly one you can write off as an expense.

Awesome. Thank you. Any reason to need to set it up with service, or would just wifi suffice for someone? I realize I'll miss out on some ads due to targeting.

You mean a VPN service?

You absolutely must use one. Not being able to change country would make this approach nigh-on useless (the world is a big place...).

VPN services cost next to nothing.

You will only get ads targeted at WiFi traffic but this won't drastically reduce the variety of ads you see.

Haha. Sorry it was a hair brained question. I meant seeing mobile traffic in addition to wifi traffic, but wasn't thinking.

Already have the VPN service. thanks Zeno!!

This works for iPhones.

Just take a screenshot with the pressing the "home" and "off" button.
