Hi,
As I've already said I have a viral video website, if I'm not wrong I couldn't use tracking software like prosper202 due to many different posts every day and not just 2-3 LPs.
I thought about a WP plugin which is able to rotate different images/banners and get me the analytics (CTR, ...)
- Is this the best way to split testing the banners in my case?
- Does any body know any good WP plugin for this purpose?
Thanks,
Alex
ad rotate pro
I'd strongly recommend using a dedicated ad server and then just including the banner code for that ad server in your page.
Using a WP plugin to rotate ads will screw with your caching something awful - particularly if you use a PHP-based rotator, you'll either end up with pages "stuck" on a single ad or you'll end up with your site slowing waaaay down. I spent a while bashing my head off this a couple of years ago.
People are saying good things about http://www.revive-adserver.com/ - might be worth giving that a try.
Thanks a lot caurmen,
Wow, so many new things to learn here in STM! I'm a bit overwhelmed learing lately
I'll have a look at the adserver, study how to set it up and start testing it too.
I've got a BlueHost VPS with 6 CPUs and 6GB Ram, are the resources enough to be safe for AM?
Thanks,
Alex
120 visitors.... a second? A day?
6 CPU / 6 GB RAM + tuning is the kind of specs you'd need for 120 visitors a second, which is 10+ million clicks a day.
At that level you would want to be on a dedicated server, not a VPS.
How many daily views were you getting? 120 visitors a second is a lot of traffic and with that amount I presume you'd be banking well enough to just get a local dedicated server.
Even at 1 million clicks a day I would be moving everything to a dedicated - not because a well tuned VPS couldn't handle it, but because a dedicated can offer guaranteed resources.
To calculate how many visitors I get every second I should divide the real time visitors with the average time spent by a user on the page.
So I don't get 120 visitors a second, that number are the people watching the videos at the same time on my site.
I get an average from 10k to 20k views a day in a normal situation (I had a drop of views in the last few days, wondering if Facebook made another algorithm change).
The max views I got so far is 85k in a day (a video got viral making 600k$ only by itslef with AdSense). I couldn't get more visitors that day because the Bluehost Pro account was going down over 630 visitors at the same time. It couldn't handle them.
I'm just turning to other ways to monetize it. I'm trying with CPAs offers and Download leeds. I'm not banking well at the moment, I'm still using AdSense which makes me barely 1k$ a month! Is it a shame?
A VPS is fine at the moment, the views slowed down a bit. I have a suspect that Facebook has changed something. Since a month not a single video got viral to reach again the 600 visitors that I loved at that time!
In the best hours I cannot even get over 250 real time users now which the current VPS handle very well.
If it growns up more, sure I'll switch to a dedicated server. I'm also still waiting for a good deal to make more money!
Oh right, that level of users is fine for a VPS.
As long as you offload video and static content to a CDN of sorts, and you tune the VPS properly, you should be able to handle 100k page views a day with a much smaller VPS than 6/6.
If it struggles it's likely a configuration issue - perhaps that your webserver simply isn't tweaked to handle high user concurrency well.
