Couple of questions before a big ol' follow along
My goal is to create a really in depth follow along very shortly to both:
- Keep myself accountable and moving in the right direction based on the excellent feedback that appears to be given generously here, and
- Act as a resource for others who are new like me and looking to get going on the right track.
I seriously want to share just about everything as I go from failure (buying data) to failure (buying data...) to failure (do I have enough data?) to positive ROI and monstrous paydays.
Quick intro...
Though I want to buy all the things and run a ton of different campaigns and learn all the intricacies of trackers, etc., I decided to start with mobile.
Reading through the Mobile Cookbook, I figured I'd do the Appetiser first just to see what it's all about.
Current set up is thus:
- $1000 budget/month for the next 3 months (as a base), likely moving up to $3000-$4000/month as soon as a site sale goes through.
- I've got $500 in my Decisive account.
- Signed up for about 3 or 4 other mobile traffic sources.
- Approved at 4 networks (Convert2Media, F5, Adsimilis, Mundo)
First one I was set up on was C2M and the Aff Manager gave me Mate1 to promote on Mobile. I was pretty sure I wanted something with a lower payout and potentially non-dating to run with the Appetiser layout, but what the hell, I said alright. Now I'm thinking this may have been a bit silly. Still need to make it work though I guess.
I did a first run on Decisive as laid out in the Appetiser post with no conversions. (1 angle, 4 campaigns, 8 very different ads, just as recommended).
Questions...
I'm looking for the best starting point to have a hope of being able to test the hell out of a campaign as I start this journey (and the Follow Along), so I'm wondering where to go/start.
1. Do I keep running Mate1 on this traffic source and just try more angles?
2. Is Decisive dating-friendly in terms of conversions?
2a. If no, should I run Mate1 on a different traffic source?
3. Do I choose a lower payout offer where I can gather more data on the cheap like an app/game download in S. America/Asia/etc.?
4. Do I dig in a bit deeper to get more 'learning' bang for my buck and follow the Main Course post? (learn trackers, landers, etc. etc. from the start)
The most attractive option is finding a lower payout international offer that I can do a load of tweaks to and learn a whole lot over the next little while, but if there's good hope on Decisive for this Mate 1 offer, then I'll continue that and maybe grab another offer to try at the same time? But don't want keep up on the current campaign if it's crap...
Anyway, longer than I would have hoped but really want to start things off on the right foot, not run out of money before the site sale goes through, and get as much data for my buck as possible, with the hopes of running my first break even campaign within 30 days.
Really appreciate the time and help!

1. I'm not sure if Mate1 mobile is good or not, you'll have to get feedback from someone else here.
2. No idea. It all depends on ads/angle/placements/offer as it does with most traffic sources.
2a. Stick with the traffic source you chose - better to change offer/campaign IMO than jump sources.
3. That's a good idea, yes. What was the Mate1 payout and what country?
4. Why not? This is going to have to happen some time, the best time is now.

1) Mate1 is a bit unreliable, and has a tendency to kick people off - at least, that was the case when I last ran it. I'd say test it but if it doesn't work, move on.
2) You can run dating ads. AS for the traffic, depends on the country and the placement, as Zeno says.
2a) What Zeno said! Stick with the thing you started with.
3) Yep, that's a very good idea.
4) As is that
Hope that helps!

Hey zeno and caurmen, thanks for the answers! Just trying to get a grip as I try to get my head around a whirlwind of information.
Think I'll be spending some time going over tracking, landers, and researching offers. I think I may have spent a bit with the first run of the Mate1 campaign without actually thinking over it. Too much action too soon (if that's possible..), but at least there's a bit of data and a bit of comfort in doing the small things.
The Mate1 is $2 payout in Canada.
I'll get a bit of a grip on servers, trackers, landers, and how everything fits together and then I'll craft a real campaign for the Mate1, plus I'll pick a lower payout international offer to test as well. When that's all sorted I'll start a follow along and see how far we can get.
Thanks again for the help!
