Falsely accused of running non-compliant LPs?

Has anyone been accused of running an LP or banner that wasn't theirs before?

A network just asked me to pause a campaign because of misleading banners and landing pages. The LP is on a domain name similar to mine, but slightly different. The LP is VERY aggressive and definitely isn't compliant.

I've told the network that I don't even own that domain, but they say the advertiser found the LP redirects to my affiliate ID (I've checked and it's definitely my ID). They are looking into it, but how can I prove that it wasn't me running it?

It's a mobile campaign and I'm using a 302 redirect -the LP I'm using has been approved by my AM so I had no need to cloak. I've asked them to look at the referrer stats because the LP should show there - I have no idea whether that can be faked or not though.

One of two things...

1) Sounds like some newb downloaded your lander, made it super aggressive and forget to change the affiliate links to his own

OR

2) A competitor is trying to fuck you over and get you kicked off the offer...

I dont know how you prove that something is NOT yours... Perhaps tell them to not pay you for the leads that came from the non compiiant lander, Ask them if they are willing to continue and only pay you for what came from your specific domain....

I dont know if anything speaks louder than being willing to only get paid for leads from the domain you told them is yours...

That's a really good idea, I'll suggest that to them when they get back to me.

The lander is completely different so it can't be someone ripping it. I thought about a competitor trying to get me kicked off, but it's a low volume campaign ($200-$300 revenue/day) so it seems unlikely. It's a possibility though.

Is this a big offer that lots of others are running? Is the advertiser legitimate?

If not -- I've heard of a case where the advertiser themselves put up a fake non-compliant site, just to get out of paying an affiliate for leads. It's BS of course but has happened to a friend of mine.

I wonder if someone is running a pop, targetting your lander and then it re-directs to their lander.

These were the two things I first thought of as well. I would also request a new aff ID going forward. This will eliminate any accidental mix ups that could have caused this. If the new aff ID starts to be used with the non compliant page then you know for sure that someone is intentionally targeting you.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Just spoke to my AM and the advertiser will pay for the existing leads, they just want me to pause. I assumed they wouldn't pay, so that's the good news.

Network is still waiting to hear back about whether they've made a mistake, so I'll wait and see what they say. If they definitely haven't made a mistake then it must be a competitor - I'm going to ask for a new aff ID either way.
