Top of the Rev Sheet - Offer Blindness?

Hey STMers,

Noob question:

I have a quick question about choosing proven offers from the top of an aff network's revenue sheet.

Wouldn't that offer be subjected to a lot of eyeballs already and hence ironically be harder to run once it's made it's already made its way to the top of the revenue sheet? In which case, choosing the top converting offer may not be the best strategy?

Cheers,
Ken.

There are too many factors to definitively say whether that would be the case or not.

Just off the top of my head:

- How long has it been running?
- How many affiliates are running it?
- What kind of volume are they pushing?
- Which traffic sources are they using and not using?
- How big is the geo?

You're not going to be able to accurately answer most of these questions by viewing a revenue sheet or inspecting network EPCs.

What you can deduce is that for someone(s), somewhere it seems be converting.

Whether it can do the same for you is only going to be found out by testing it yourself.

Ken I had your way of thinking when I was starting out too. I would always think the top offers were always too saturated for a newbie like me. Use those offer sheets as a very loose yard stick.

But make sure to ask the questions that @prof mentioned if you decide to test offers that don't appear in top sheets. There is a lot of junk offers that sit stale on networks and just won't convert no matter how good you are.

Thanks MrG and prof!

So I guess the first four questions I can ask my AM and the last one I can find from the traffic source?

- How long has it been running?
- How many affiliates are running it?
- What kind of volume are they pushing?
- Which traffic sources are they using and not using?
- How big is the geo?

Pretty much - the geo info can come from the traffic source or general research. If it's an offer for handbags that only allows Liechtenstein as a geo, common sense would dictate that you don't touch it with a ten foot pole.

Some offers may be decent but simply haven't caught the eye of any affiliates.

Better questions to ask for these may be: how long has it been with the network, is the offer advertiser stable with you guys, how many affiliates have sent traffic to it and what lifetime volume has it got and conversion rate. I wouldn't worry about traffic sources if the offer has had hardly any traffic.
