I am exploring app installs for games on Facebook.
I have a couple setup questions and hoping someone in here can shed some light.
Is there a way to check which ads resulted in conversion when tracking with
I know they offer the option to generate a pixel (which I did) but the affiliate network only supports server to server postback for the particular offer.
What is the best way to track app installs for mobile facebook traffic?
Also do you need to promote these offers through a fan page promotion or can you promote directly to the app itself?
If you're affiliate network won't place a pixel then there is no way to track this via Facebook's conversion tracking.
You can however pass a unique ID for every ad and use postback tracking with
E.g. each ad has ....adid=1234 in it's URL so that you can look at performance based on 'adid' in
You would do this with virtually every traffic source available so Facebook is no different, you just won't have conversion data on FBs end.
There are lots of ways you can track app installs... it really depends on the offer, who you're running it through and the capabilities on your end. In any case, using Voluum + manual IDs for ads + postback tracking isn't going to make a campaign convert less well compared to using a PMD and tracking everything internally.
As for the ads, you're going to have to use page link posts. To use mobile app ads you need direct access to the play store - with these types of ads you simply enter a store ID and it automatically sorts out the details. This will direct link to the store, cutting out middleman, so there would be no affiliate network to pay you. If you are direct with the advertiser this is a possibility though.
Thanks for your quick response!
So if I am not able to place a pixel then oCPM bidding is out of the question?
You can still use oCPM, it just won't optimise the audience over time in the same way it would if pixel conversions were coming through.
oCPM has benefits outside of this optimisation though.
When making ads you can choose to make a new unpublished post - there is a small link for it.
Choosing link makes an unpublished link post.
It is the same kind of post as when you post a link on your page, where it downloads a page headline/description and associated image.
I would think your campaign objective is conflicting with the type of ads you are making.
If you have a campaign objective for mobile app installs you are likely locked into mobile app ads or similar.
