How old we're you when you hit your first $10,000/month? (53)

How old we're you when you hit your first $10,000/month?

Another thread got me inspired to post this. The thread was about life lessons in your 30s, and how it's "never to late to start". This thread will probably inspire newcomers to hustle and keep on trucking.

I hit my first $10k/month at 16. I was doing $xx,xxx+/month consistently around age 19.

I know of 16 year old's doing $xxx,xxx/months now, and 50 year olds doing the same.

I was 21 when i hit my first $10k profit in a month. Unfortunately, I was late to the game and didn't start making any internet monies until I was 21. It was a little less than a year later, age 22, when I hit my first six figure month. (shortly after joining STM )

06-23-2014 01:48 AM #3 karoshi (Member)

My first >10k month was last month when I was 26.

That's when I decided to focus and join STM to get to the six figure month club.

16?

Fucking hell. I've apparently been slacking!

Did my first $10k month in 2006 as an affiliate within 6 months of
starting out, I was 27 or 28.

And then I got addicted to copywriting, and that became my main
biz.

Been quite some time since I made $10k in a month as an affiliate,
but those days will hopefully be coming back quickly as I've been
trying to turn my focus back to AM and buying traffic these past
few months.

Love this thread, btw.

Nice thread idea Stackdaddy!

My first $xx,xxx month was at 18 years old, 22 now have seen a huge rollercoaster of earnings but once you realise its all buying data, test test test, its easy to uphold good earnings

37 now. started at 30.
2 years to hit $xx,xxx per month. With services.
5 years to hit $xxx, xxx per month. With affiliate marketing.
Currently doing $xxx, xxx per month. With services.
Kind of an odd question.
Not sure age matters.
Fwiw: my view is slightly might benefit younger, because you have not gotten used to an income level yet. But, younger is also more inclined to spend profits on living, rather than building a bigger, more sustainable/diversified business.
Learning curve is steep, whatever the age. And, if you don't do it with intensity and volume (of hours) you wont "get" it. You will always be sliding down that slope, because the game is not static. (Not just affiliate marketing, but internet monies in general)
Again, younger maybe has more time to just immerse and live and breathe it.
But, older has more to lose, and maybe wants it more. (that is what does it for me. kids. wife. not needing to have a "real" job like all my stifled, poor, unhappy mates)
But... Fuck knows... whatever works...

At 18 with services (not sure if that counts). Screwed up a lot in the following years though
Now 23. Surprised some of the "senior" people here are quite my age

one thing I am a bit curious about, for those of you who started when they were in their teens, how did you even create a budget to start testing and getting into aff marketing?

when I was 16 or 17, all the money I had in the world was invested in a xbox and a 20 year old Honda.

06-23-2014 07:49 AM #13 maynzie (Moderator)

$150 birthday cash and a $400 visa lol

Margins were much larger and the game was generally a lot less competitive back in the days. Even if you did not the formula exactly right, you could build up quite a bit of capital from your retained earnings quite quickly.

When adwords first came out, you could get top position on Google for even head terms like "mortgage" for example for about $5. Given that during those days, the commission on a mortgage lead was ~$120 ... well, you get the idea.

06-23-2014 08:02 AM #15 blackemil (Junior Moderator)

I created my budget from SEO. Still making 150-200 per day pure profit from seo. And in my country earning 2k per month it's more then enough to leave good,so i was able to fund my campaigns. Still not a huge earner but i see profits and i am happy with it.

ahh yeah I gotcha. from what I read, even a few years ago was a world of difference in aff marketing. nowadays it seems that you need quite a few thousand $ behind you unless you get very lucky

True, but the fact is, 5 years from now, people will be saying the exact same thing ... "Man, I wish I had started 5 years ago, things were much easier back then around 2014."

haha no kidding

I take it then the best way to put it is the days of starting with $150 birthday money and a $400 visa are pretty much over :P

heres another related question: how did you guys start? did someone introduce you to the biz?

who was the 10 y.o that hit 10k?
(i am gonna laugh some coffee out my nose if you were in fact 10, and not 15...)

$3000 saved up from working hard at an Ice Cream store! Got into making websites, saved up $30kish because i had NO expenses in high school except copious amounts of pizza.

I think you could still do AM with $1k saving money, and starting with small payout campaigns.

Friend introduced me from making websites to AM, how about you?

same here. friend introduced me.

wish I would have stumbled on it a few years back though while backpacking. would have been the perfect travel solution instead of working bottom of the barrel mindless labor jobs while overseas

I was 39 before I got to the $XX,XXX monthly point but damn was it sweet once I finally did.

Came into the biz via the Web Design / SEO route.

My first $10k month was from Adsense and SEO when i was 19/20. Got offered $40-60k for one of my sites back then and I kick myself now for not taking it!

This is very inspirational!

I would like to ask the stars of this forum, after you hit your first $10,000 profit month, what did you do to celebrate? Also, is there anything you wish you had does differently AFTER your first $10,000 profit month now that you look back on it?

Some impressive adolescent marketing in this thread!

I was 21 (in 2009).

It was good timing. I was working in the city, smack down in the middle of the credit crunch.

My old web agency dealt solely with financial clients, so there was the waft of redundancies in the air -- meanwhile I was earning 5x, then 10x then 20x my monthly salary in the space of 6 weeks.

Quit my job promptly after!

God bless you Acai.

Wow. Without going into details, how does one make so much from services? I dont know anyone who buys services online.

Great thread stackman. So inspiring and motivating to see so many people not throwing their life away in their teens. Yet are so humble and eager to help others out. This is seriously the best forum.

I was 25 when I hit $10k per month.

Someone should post some not so happy story here
I was 19-20 when I hit my first my first $10k month with my porn site.
Unfortunately because of some bad investments and Google animals I'm back to zero, working hard on getting it back in my 25 as I've entered AM 9 months ago.

I started searching for online money because I was installing stuff at a newly built luxurious house with a big swimming pool in the basement quite a few years ago.

The owner was 24. He coughed up 1.6 M Euros.

I asked him what he did for a living and he mentioned something containing the words: "ring tones", "webcams" and "pr0n".

My n00b reaction was going on the SEO ride.. what a bitch

I haven't seen him again and he only lives 2 miles from here.

06-28-2014 12:41 AM #40 panicore (Member)

24, things changed when i started to see SEO as just a source of traffic over which you have little control. Changed to paid advertising and things went so much faster.

The days of starting with ~$550 are far from over, albeit getting less and less common, I'm sure.

I dropped out of high school and worked low paying jobs for a few years. I started doing logo design contests while working full time, it didn't pay enough to quit my job, so I literally searched 'how to make money online' and found wickedifre.

Started affiliate marketing with around $300 total to my name, and managed to break the 7 figure mark in total revenue less than 2 years later.

in 2.5 years I went from 0.00 rev to 10k plus a month at age 49.

I am old f#cker now at 51 and just had a record month and moved into my dream home.

I was 28, I'm currently now 30.

I was working as a bellman at a hotel, when a random 10 minute conversation about Java landed me a job working for an affiliate as a programmer. Haven't picked up a god damn bag since!

06-30-2014 12:35 PM #46 hendrix (Member)

I worked at a shitty job for almost 10 full years as the IT guy in a high school (from 22 to 31). In the meantime I dabbled stock investing / forex (I was quite good at it after 2 years - I even developed some good connections with 2 big banks - but then in 2007, the world collapsed), got my bachelors and masters degree, but still no major changes in my life. So I decided to quit, because I felt I was wasting my life, and do some stuff on mobile (after reading the 4 Hour Workweek). In the next 8 months or so, I was able to surpass 10k USD/month (it's not easy, tho, a majority of mobile devs earns less than 500 USD/month, according to a recent survey).

I'm still new in all this and now I've decided to diversify my sources of income, because I don't want to depend on Google only (I still get 80% of my income from them). I+ve started to publish eBooks (it's lucrative) and I'm also determined to learn CPA.

Do you talk about 10K earning or profits ?

I was 20 when I hit 10K profit with Adsense, I'm 30 now and never goes under XX,XXX€ / month since, but with others websites (porn).

That website that made 10K still earn nearly 50€ / month on adsense, it has decrease slowly in the years.
I keep it, by nostalgia

another old dude here. it happend last year when I was 50 (0->10k rev/month in 15 months)

However recently I asked "I Ching" and it said: "Gnawing Bite" (Hexagram 21), so...
