Mobile App Development?

Hey there,

So I have a side project of mine that I want my website (and all of it's data) transferred to a mobile app.
I started looking at oDesk and realized I have no idea what to look for as far as past projects and experiences.

Does anyone have a good recommendation for either iOS or Android mobile app developer?

Thanks!

Hi Twoj,

Hope you're doing well. Shoot me a message and I can help you out! I actually own a mobile app development company so this is right up my alley. Thanks!

Searching twitter for "ios developer" is a great way to find the BEST developers, they're usually pricey though. Just narrow down based on followers, and what they've worked on.

You'll find the bosses on twitter and the cheaper guys on Odesk (generally).

Apple launched a new programming language called Swift for mobile which is supposed to be easy and fast to learn ... maybe you can even do this yourself?

Apparently a developer wrote a clone of Flappy Bird in just a few hours with Swift:

The monthly "Freelancer?" thread on Hacker News is my usual recommendation for where to find developers - loads of extremely awesome guys over there. Again, though, not cheap.

I think the challenge here is filtering the ones who are good (who are in very high demand) and those who are not. Unless you are a developer yourself, this will be really hard to judge.

Even on Odesk, I see many people select IOS developer/contractors often by looking at the screenshots of the apps these developers/contractors have purportedly worked on.

Even if you set aside the fact that it is almost impossible to verify if the person actually developed the app or not (or how much of it he or she developed), selecting a backend developer based on how the UI looks (which a completely different front end developer would have normally created) makes about as much sense as selecting a heart surgeon based on the brand of cologne or perfume he or she may be wearing on a particular day.

i'm a developer..but independent (don't do other people projects)
you need to know what you need first based on your project.
you can pay double price if developer first program in native for android and then pay again for programming for IOS. thats best for them, bad for you (money).
i would choose languages that you program once and you can publish both to android and ios (but there can be performance issues..you need to decide based on the project)
i program in Adobe Air, which means i program once then publish for Android and IOS without much effort.
you can program 3D games both for android and IOS using Unity for example
you can program 2D games for both using Cocos..the list goes on. based on project.

once you know the language, you can search in a smarter way through Odesk.
