Hola dudes,
I have another in my neverending line of questions.
Backstory - set up a new PPV camp yesterday, and got
atrocious numbers. CTR of 1.4% for my lander.
Thought there was a server problem, contact beyond,
they showed me that my landers are causing the server
to pause when loading stuff, instead of doing it all at once.

See the big square of nothingness in the middle? That's
the issue, according to Beyond.
Ironically when I performed the test to get this screenshot,
it had the fastest time yet, at 581ms...
... but I spent quite some time yesterday diligently testing
all 8 landers at various times, and not once did any of them
load faster than 1.4 seconds.
Anybody have insight here?
My landers are super basic HTML with minimal images and
very small files. When I was still using my shitty hostgator
shared hosting I was able to get load times of around 300-400ms.
Seems weird to me that I can't get similar landers to load
faster on a much quicker server.
Thank you, ladies and gents, for your time.
PS- Follow up question - what's a good loading time for PPV?
"As fast as the laws of physics allow" is the obvious answer,
but what's a practical average to aim for?
Put a few hours into this today, and I have some new information, although I'm as confused as ever.
First, I went through all 8 landers, switched over to using niftyplayer for the audio, and reduced image sizes as much as possible. Oh and I reduced the size of the MP3 files too.
These changes made a BIG difference, with all 8 landers now loading in around 500ms according to the Pingdom tools. Great. Problem solved, right?
Well, um, no, not really. The pages may be loading faster, but they're still about twice as slow as they should be, because they're doing that pausing thing in the middle of loading.
After speaking with Beyond and them telling me it was something in my landers causing that delay each time, I had a brainfart - test the same landers on different hosting, to see if Beyond were correct.
NOPE.
I uploaded the landers to my crappy hostgator shared hosting that costs $9.95 a month, I've had for almost ten years, and is so crammed full of old web junk that I barely ever use it.
That way, I can see if it really is the landers causing the pausing... or the hosting itself.
Lo and behold, the landers load on that old crappy hosting without any pausing at all - and they do it in about 250ms.
Which is great.
But really, shouldn't my kickass VPS outperform that? Or at least have performance around the same level?
Confused.
Can you post a link to a lander?
It's likely something code related I would think... but hard to offer any suggestions without getting my hands dirty.
