Going through the 2013 complete guide, stuck on buying a VPS (Newbie).

So I tried to purchase a VPS via the offer on the guide where you get 50% off the started package. Trouble is, it's telling me to register a domain name, when I haven’t even contacted my affiliate manager yet and asked about offers, because this is later in the process. Should I do this before, get an offer, and then register a domain? Do domains cost extra?

Would appreciate the answers, thanks!

You can get your tracking domain setup first, that is completely offer-independent.

So the tracking domain, is there a guide on here that explains that? It's just telling me to register for a new domain name, and then it comes up with options for different names at different prices, like it would do on any of other general hosting site. However on the higher prices VPS's, it seems to skip that, and just go onto pricing for some reason! A little confusing for a newbie. Can you check this out for yourself? It would be greatly appreciated.

Domain names are just like email addresses, or toll free numbers.

They can be almost anything you want and just point somewhere.

Register a simple domain name at NameCheap and when you sign up at BeyondHosting just put that domain name in, i.e. go through the option of "i already have a domain".

Note: at NameCheap .pw domain names are balls cheap and you should also get the $2 PositiveSSL addon and the free WHOISGuard protection.
