This is really fascinating.
I think it has a ton of potential.
I really need to get the ball rolling on getting my first paid campaign going
so I can say "I'm in it to pin it"
And a thousand other really lame puns.
I can see this doing really well for a lot of niches.

Thanks for this!
I'm pretty pumped, overall. If they open this with relaxed rules, this could be very big.

I was director of a company that hired Ben Silverman out of university---several years before he co-founded Pinterest, and later, I did some work for one of the VC firms that backed Pinterest.
One think I can probably say with certainty is that--as long as they are an independent company--
Pinterest will be even more strict on the types of advertising allowed on their platform than even Google or Facebook. They take and respect their user base and demographic very seriously ... and rightly so.

Would you simply scale current campaigns to Pinterest, or come up with new ones specific to it? Skin/diet/dating all day?

Golden TIP: This is perfect opportunity to build a mailing list where you give away a free eBook as a lead magnet since majority of their demo is interested in food.
Then once you have their emails you can sell them:
-recipe books,
-cookware, utencils, pots&pans, table settings, decorations, flowers, vases via ShareASale
-special cooking school get-a-ways ( i know many rich do cooking tourism where they travel the world to go to authentic cooking classes in the geo they wanna learn, ie italy->italian)
and many more - these are just a few things that come to my mind this instant...
