Bizopp on Adult Traffic - $xx,xxx net

There was good response for the case study I posted few weeks ago. So I'm back again with another one!

Offer: Group Deal Tools (Multiple countries)
Network: Mundo Media
Traffic Source: Adult banners/pop traffic

This was a bizopp campaign I ran for a few months with minimal effort ($300-$400/day profit). The payout was $37.5 and the offer is still available on Mundo. I kinda lost interest after a while and stopped running it, so there is still a lot of money left on the table for anyone who can improvise and make this better.

Things I did before jumping in:

1) Hit up my AM and got the payout bumped to $42.5.
2) Decided to run on Adult traffic since young males are my target demo.
3) Stole some banners from Whatrunswhere and did a quick test - learned that banners with people holding cheques got good CTRs and converted well. Decided to stick to that angle.
4) Started testing in big geos like India and Brazil, but profits went down fast...campaigns didn't stay profitable even for a few days at a stretch. So I changed my approach and picked some offbeat countries - Malaysia, South Africa, Nigeria & Philippines. Less traffic but geos my other affiliate buddies didn't bother to touch.

Copying banners and running them is too boring. I had to add some spice to make it interesting for me. So I kept it simple and did 2 things with this campaign:

1) I found a small bunch of pics with people holding cheques, cut just their hands and saved those layers. I had white hands holding a cheque, black hands and brown hands. Now I went to Okcupid and searched for profiles in each of the above countries, picked some middle aged guys - about 5 images for each country. Then I photoshopped the hands into those pics. Voila! Locals holding cheques! Sample - http://i.imgur.com/7Mlfeax.gif
2) I picked images of guys because - on the lander (news style) I wrote about a dad of three who makes money working from home. Now using PHP, I made sure I showed the same dad that was on the banner the user clicked on to get to the lander. So if you clicked on dad 05, you will see the same guy on the landing page as well. This made sure my funnel was in sync.

I ran this campaign on all the major adult self-serve traffic sources. Initially I was just running banners, then found out that pops gave me a better ROI. In Nigeria, one of the sources would spend only $50/week but make $800 in revenue. I guess they've never seen bizopp ads before.

Time for stats! (approximate numbers)

Total Spend: $77,000
Total Revenue: $117,000
Net Profit: $40,000
ROI: 51%

Hit the thanks button if you'd like to see more case studies. Cheers!

Dude I'm loving these "unconventional" case studies. Would you talk a little bit more regarding the test phase: how many offers did you test initially? why did you go with that specific one? how many many banners were tested and spending?

sorry for all the questions.

thanks!

Good to know About the offer, I didn't have anything in mind..just wanted to try the bizopp niche..my AM recommended Group Deal Tools since it was converting well for others. So I went ahead with that one.

I tested 10 banners I got from Whatrunswhere...there were some 4-5 banner styles I think. All banner styles converted, but the cheque angle did best. (for noobs out there, it is always best to start with different styles of banners, try as many angles as possible in the very first step)

I started with cheap India traffic and spent about $1k before switching to my own banners. After I hit the $20k revenue mark, I chucked India & Brazil and started working on other countries.

From that point on, I had 5 banners for each country and never changed the banners, never cut bad ones, I just let them all run coz they were all profitable. Doesn't happen all the time, but sometimes it does. The only thing I did was take it to new sources.

I believe this campaign worked because:
1) I used pics of locals holding cheques - people can relate to them.
2) The user saw the same guy on the lander as well (same guy but another picture of him from his OkCupid profile) - there was sync between banner & LP.
3) I went after low-competition countries - less banner burnout problems.
4) I got a bump in the payout that made me $13k more in revenue - free monies for the same effort
5) I tried this on pop traffic as well - which contributed to more than half the revenue.

Awesome case study mate!

$40,000 in cash profit for a "minimal effort" campaign. Once again lifetweak you've shown the potential when you don't just follow the pack.

#respect

I Thrive off this type of stuff. Mix and matching angles/traffic types/offers that don't belong. This is what gets me excited. When you find the right combo it can be endless gold!

I've tried tons of bizopp stuff on mobile and haven't been able to make it work, so kudos to you for making bizopp and another type of traffic work!

Great case study! Never would have though biz opps would have worked on pops. Just goes to show the importance of testing.

Just curious though- what was your LP CTR like? I assume you're using a standard news advertorial so I imagine CTR was pretty low. Did you try a JS pop or any other LP trick to increase CTR?

LP CTR for banner traffic was mostly around 25%...in South Africa it was close to 30% and in Nigeria it was much higher at 42%.

For pop traffic the LP CTR was around 1-2%.

Didn't use entry or exit pops since most traffic sources don't allow them.

Great case study man!

I'm wondering why you stopped running the campaign if it was profitable?? Banners burned out or you literally just got tired of maintaining it?

Whenever banners burned out on one traffic source, I simply took it to another source and ran them profitably. I even ran them on non-adult traffic sources like Adperium and Sitescout for a bit.

I don't like the news style / flog landers much....I'm not giving up on bizopps, I'd like to challenge myself to come up with something original instead of the using news style landers....I think, on some level I feel that its shady.

My main <3 about this, is there's SO much scaling room, and things to test that haven't been done.

Hey lifetweak ,

Thanks for the awesome little guide, what networks have the best OpBiz offers.
I'm thinking about promoting them via PPV popups.

Thanks

No reason this can't be scaled to clickbank offers

Excuse me while I go get some hands.

I really like this consistency technique. Simple but very effective.

hi lifetweak,

that is a totally new idea. How do you come up those ideas? How do you brainstorm? I always have problems in angles.Sorry for those questions, but it is totally amazing!
