Split-Testing Ads: oCPM vs. CPC
I have heard on here that it's best to make 3 dupes of each ad in 1 ad group for a CPC campaign so at least one of the ads gets good traction.
However you're apparently not supposed to do this with oCPM ads. Why is this? How then should I structure my oCPM campaigns to get traction and split test multiple ads?

Because oCPM gets guaranteed traffic regardless if the ad performs or not. If you need to split test multiple different ads, you'd do it by using different campaigns/ad sets.

Just structure exactly as you would before... but have 1 ad in each ad set instead of 3. All you're doing is removing that last duplication step from your process.

Ah...ok. For some reason, I was under the impression that you needed to have 2 different oCPM ads competing against each other in an ad set for it to optimize correctly. Thanks for clearing that up.
