Ski'ers/Snowboarders! Impromtu STM trip next week??
Salut!
Was talking to @dalhaze about an impromptu ski/boarding trip in 5-10 days. Kind of in the air at the moment. Maybe we could organize a little STM boarding meetup depending on the town!?
Can anyone recommend resorts in Canada or US with good snow right now? Ideally with good nightlife too.

great idea!
I hate to burst your bubble, but all the mountais I know are done for the season. off the top of my head, I cant think of one that is open.
maybe waiting a few months and heading off to NZ would be a good idea
EDIT: actually, whistler is still open till the end of may.

this IS a great idea!
Yep, season't dying down now but Blackcomb (Whistler) is open till May 25th I think. And they've still got plenty of snow (and always nightlife). Might be a couple other resorts in Oregon or North Cal are still open... not sure though.
I woudn't be able to make this trip but I'm just super excited about this idea in general!! I live for snowboarding and I'm in Vancouver, so pretty central to many desireable places in Canada & US where this could potentially go down in the future.

I will definitely organize one of these in the future whether or not this one happens!
Thanks for the whsitler closing date, i'm sure the snow would be pretty sweet there no matter what compared to what I'm used to + TSHIRT BOARDING yes please. Worst case scenario would be heading up higher in the mountains.
Whistler is definitely the ideal spot, Colorado, Tahoe and north cal should all be fairly open too I'm assuming.

They're still getting snowed on at higher levels. T-shirt weather and corn snow lower down.

Let's get a crew! Seriously pack ya board and ya laptop and let's get to the mountains. Hell make it a business retreat and write it off... I've been Jonesin hard to do some shredding all year but haven't seen any snow. Let's get stm extreme and go tear it up.

lol. tempting..
I wonder how the conditions are in Whistler for them to be open so late.
whistler is only 400km away from me. was going to take off my winter tires this week. maybe I should hold up on that

This is the time of year to get your snowshoes or AT skis and hit the back country. The south climb of Mt. Adams in Washington State is a great moderate climb and the best part is you don't have to hike down. Not for everyone, talking approx 2000m elevation gain over many miles, but epic Hoth-like snow fields, killer views and at least an hour long run down. Just don't get lost ;D
If you're not up for the climb, there's also great heli skiing in BC

Fuck a 2000m climb and my legs wouldn't work to get back down the hill.

Jeez that sounds like a hell of an experience, no way could i pull a hike like that. I wonder if you can go heli skiing this time of year that would make for an epic BC trip.

awesome! whistler's not too far from me.
if you are taking suggestions on mountains, id definitely suggest Fernie. awesome mountain, known for getting a fuck load of snow (over 10m this past winter) and probably the biggest thing that gets overlooked is.. no chairlift lines... ever (well probably is for xmas break..)
when you start considering how long you spend waiting in line for the chair vs how much time you spend snowboarding, it starts making sense.

I'm down for a future one.
Hopefully my snow gear arrives some day soon in the mail from Japan (had it shipped back)..
Definitely keep me posted on this .. Niseko in the peak of their winter would be dope.. unfortunately I missed out on the fresh POW.. but it's supposed to be fantastic.. and nightlife in Hirafu is meant to be good in high season too.

Whistler or Japan.. Colorado, Cali..
I'll keep it fairly simple for the first one. I'm excited now, lots of people interested.

I've done a season in both Tahoe and Whistler. Tahoe has awesome snowboarding but the winter nightlife is the shittest ratio I've ever seen, like 1 to 7, however booze is cheap. Whistler has good snowboarding but the nightlife / apres is heaps better, so much more talent, but more expensive.

I lived in Tahoe for a winter and can confirm that it lacks a bit on the nightlife side of things, plenty of casinos but not enough people or snow(at least the season I was there). Whistler would probably be a safer bet Or somewhere in Colorado.

Whistler can't hurt for 3ish days, I'm thinking maybe around ASW. We'll save the hard partying for vegas!
Would anyone be interested around ASW since its somewhat close?

Yeah, the snow should be decent that time of year too.. January.. It's butt-fk-cold in Vegas around that time.

We went snowboarding on Mammoth after ASW a few years ago, conditions were sick (compared to NZ). I'd be down!
