My dance with danger - Facebook + Dating (18)

My dance with danger - Facebook + Dating

Been thinking whether or not I should make a follow along. Finally went ahead and jumped into the idea.

Background
I am fairly new to the affiliate scene. I am 23, just got my job, meaning I could afford testing out affiliate marketing, which I couldn't before, because I was a broke college student. I tried teespring for a while. I sold shirts but always fell short of the milestone and ended up making no money. I been reading about internet marketing for the last 2 years and knew about CPA and affilate marketing. I never got down to doing it because I did not have much money at the time and hence never ended up taking action there. But I came across teespring after I got my job and after my losses there, I remembered about CPA and affiliate marketing and decided to pursue that instead of teespring. Since I was paying too much for ads, I wanted to know how to do it right. So I joined STM shortly after. While the rest of the world talks about scraping UIDs in facebook as the way to go to get low CPC in FB, STM has shown me how to do things right and scraping is never talked about here haha.

What I do
So I been using facebook and dating together. Dangerous combination since facebook doesnt like dating. I know. But gaming seemed to be the only other CPA offer that would be profitable in Facebook. The payout however is so low that I did not have the confidence to promote gaming offers. So dating it was. Would appreciate any other suggestions for verticals within the $5 to $10 payout range that I could try in the future. Since I am not aware of any other vertical that I could promote profitably in facebook, I am sticking with dating for now.

My Network
The network I am with is Peerfly. I am with Clickdealer and Maxbounty as well. But I want to stick with one network and profit with one network in my initial stages. This is because if my money is in too many places, I wont be able to withdraw any of it. Clickdealer has $500 withdrawal limit.

How I do what I do
Landing Page
I use a landing page in between my ad and offer, cuz facebook does not allow me to direct link to my peerfly offer. I just copied the offer page and edited it in Adobe Muse and uploaded it as a html in my Ramnode 256MB KVM VPS. I did the mistake of going for 256MB for a year. I guess proper202 and CPVLab need more ram than that. I could always upgrade to 500Mb in ramnode but not without feeling guilty about not going for digital ocean in the first place. They are offering 500Mb VPS for $5 I hear. Anyway I am using facebook reports along with the report provided by peerfly to track as of now.

Ads
This is how I create my campaigns
1. Make one ad in one campaign
2. Wait for approval
3. Once approved, make 2 more copies of the same ad in the same campaign
4. Make 3 more copies of the same approved ad in another campaign.
5. Wait for the 2 campaign with 6 ads in total to get clicks
6. Delete the ads that get zero clicks and has high cpc and keep the rest.
7. Wait for 2 days. Check conversion for each campaign.
8. Zero conversions - Delete the campaign.
9. I do not touch the budget or play with my bids once I create my campaign. (Super Paranoid)

The Result
Me creating campaigns like this has helped me achieve low CPC.
I have attached a screen shot of my current facebook campaigns as of now. Not able to attach a pic here without killing my browser tab so putting a link instead.

My currency in facebook is Indian Rupees. Currently $1 = Rs.60. So anything below Rs.6 is lower than $0.10.

This is my conversion screen shots from peerfly
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aKmWrLUY93...fly+report.JPG

All ads and conversions with C1to12 in it are the same offer but different creatives (indicated P1,P2) or Age Groups. I just started testing a new offer today. Some of the ads I have killed form facebook even if they brought me conversion. I did this becuase they were just inconsistent conversions and costed me too much money.

My Problems
All is well except for my landing page CTR. Calculated by dividing Raw Clicks in peerfly by the total clicks I got in facebook. It sucks like crazy. I cant get it past 40% CTR for my landing page. Like I mentioned before, I am using the offer's landing page with a few minor edits like communicating the benefits. I also tried throwing out the benefit and instead using the same text I used in my ad to make it a bridge to my offer. It guess it did not improve any thing major but I did not test for significance (Putting my statistic teacher to shame). My page load speed is 800ms. Page load speed is unlikely to be the reason for my poor conversions. I am aiming for 60%+ CTR in my lander. I just dont know how to proceed.

The other problem I am facing is inconsistent conversions. 8 conversions one day from 2 sets of ads and zero conversions from it the next day and 2 conversions the next. Like I mentioned before, i do not touch my budget or bids ever after creating my campaign. Its pretty sad when things dont go as expected and when I see no logical explanation to why what happened happened. Is it fairly common to have a sine wave of conversions in facebook?

Consistent profits remain elusive to midas sigh.

Thanks for all the help in advance

I forgot to post my earnings and ad spend

Offer 1
Spend: $146.882
Earnings: $131.25
ROI: -11.91%

Offer 2
Spend: $3.26
Earnings: $10.25
ROI: 214.41%

Still too early to call Offer 2 a winner.
Optimizing Offer 1 to close the negative ROI

Great

I am noticing that the reason why I am having the negative ROI is not because that I dont have enough winning campaigns, but because I am creating too many new campaigns each day. I set up 2 new campaigns everyday for the same offer testing out different creatives. Some of them bomb but I wait for 2 days before deleting them, to check if I am getting conversions. So some days I have 4 campaigns which are bombing and the losses add up.

I guess I can go at the rate of 2 new campaigns a day when I have more winning campaigns.

do you cloak ?

but in general nice follow along
i am happy to see more results coming

I have heard the term cloaking being floated around, but never grasped what it actually meant. I am guessing it has something to do with direct linking and preventing redirects from going to different places. I dont do it myself. I direct all my traffic through a lander.

I am looking at dual sell. Where a second offer is made to pop under my first offer when my CTA in my lander is clicked. The second offer may not convert as much. But whatever little conversion I see might just make the difference between profit and loss for me.

Dont know if this is ok. Still trying to figure out the code to do this.

Your ROI is 214.4% and not 69.74% if I'm not mistaken

Looks like you simply need more data for offer 2 - 10$ earnings could very well be variance

I'm doing dating on FB as well, good luck mate

Well, points for tenacity. I'm interested in how long this will campaign/account will last.

Yea I am sort of paranoid. The offer itself is mainstream dating with a green wot score. I am planning to move to clickbank once I have figured out the basics of how FB work. Right now I just dont have the balls lol.

lol I had to double check the date this thread was started.

Since you are new to AM, I would suggest that you stay away from dating on FB if you want to stay motivated.

I wonder how your ads are getting approved though...

Sigh I just have to kill my ads and start over then. I have a good standing with facebook. My approval to disapproval ratio is pretty good I suppose.

Oh lol, my bad - I presumed you knew that dating was pretty much out but were dancing with the devil anyway. Surprising that you got ads through!

Nah I thought it was still something facebook condoned. I never had any trouble getting my ads approved strangely enough. I have just heard that they dont like it. Its like I live in a parallel universe or something

The problem I am having is identifying alternate offers and verticals. I can't find any CPA offers which has a decent payout of $4 or more + good WOT score + being a non-dating offer. Maybe I should drop CPA all together and move on to making Cost per Sale offers. I might have more options there, but a little worried about the conversion aspect of it. But I guess I will never know if I dont try.

I am sort of hell bent on sticking with facebook. I am sort of infatuated :P I have not had big failure per se with facebook. Its just that I dont have CPA offers to go well with it.

@midasrichie - You don't need a large payout to make a lot of money with an offer - see http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...ghlight=payout

Thanks caurmen. That makes a lot of sense. I wish someone had told me this in the very beginning
