"Freelancer (ASX: FLN) will acquire internet marketing forum - Warrior Forum for US$3.2 million in cash funded by existing cash reserves.
This represents a price to revenue multiple of 3x based on revenues of around US1.0 million.
Warrior's business model is to charge fees for access, self-serve advertising and listing fees for marketplace items posted in the forum.
The forum is one of the oldest and largest, ranking in the top 250 websites globally while at 158 in the U.S.
It began in 1997.
It will be operated independently, and leveraged to enhance growth in Freelancer's core online services website by enabling employers and contractors to transact and chat enhancing user engagement.
This is an interesting "play" by Freelancer. Any website and forum that has those global ranking metrics and interactivity by users has a significant inherent value. If it can be unlocked by Freelancer then it provides a useful add-on that could transform into a significant earner."

Very interesting buy there, curious to know Freelancers plans.
Not sure I see the endgame here - WF certainly has a huge following and undoubtedly does a lot of revenue, but how it will enhance Freelancer's core online services is nebulous to me.
WF is such a scummy place.
Freelance + WF? I see no correlation here except both sites have a lot of people that wanna make money.
This is gonna be interesting.
I'm astounded it only has revenues of amillion. You'd think for a forum of that size, they would have monetized it much more effectively.
Yah, but I mean, I'm sure even JUST by recommending Hostgator / (whatever host pays most) for all starting affiliates they'd be making more that that.
I see pretty good potential for cooperation for those two. In general WF has huge amount of freelancers/services working out for other people. So I wouldn't say this is bad news.
Thanks,
WF. I have a love hate relationship with it. It's great, but also soooo bad!
I can only comment on the CPA section. The misinformation there is ridiculous.
Maybe Freelancer is trying to escalate its user-base before a merger or acquisition
Most of the WSO's are like this:
WSO Seller = "Let me show you how to make money online"
WSO Buyer - "Really? What's your method"
WSO Seller = "Buy my product and I'll make money online, that's how"
This is interesting. Would love to know what Freelancer.com plans to do with it.
Or indeed, if they even really understand what they've bought.
I used to be quite fond of the WF. It was through that forum that I discovered
what a copywriter was and kind of launched an embarrassingly successful
copywriting career.
Over the years I've seen it devolve into a place for non-action takers to go
to bitch and moan about their lack of success and try to drag others down
into the Swamp of Desperation.
I always wondered what the endgame for the forum was. Crappy WSOs as
a monetization strategy always seemed a bit short-sighted to me. I'm surprised
that it was only making $1m a year though.
Interesting stuff. Thanks for the share, Mr Green.
WarriorForum is like any other tool. Like a gun for example... can be bad or good but it's very much how it's used and not about the intimate object itself. I've hired bad ass copywriters in their copywriting section many times. I learned all about how build video sales landers there. And the list goes on.
I personally think Freelancer.com got a STEAL of price on it at 3.2 million. They have 75k active members that are interested in making money online. That's a super valuable user base because they'll spend money and invest into building things. I would have paid 3.2 million for it in a heartbeat.
I honestly thought the headline was a joke. WF is only a step up from BlackHatWorld.
Interesting comments section haha

I'm very very happy i stumbled onto WF years AFTER i understood affiliate marketing. Otherwise things would be quite backwards
yea, stuble in warrior forum while you are a fish,
is bad luck
one of worst things that can happen you..
guilty in charge..
WF is alright, and this move is definitely an interesting one. Not sure what it means for the future of the forum though. Guess we will see how it unfolds.
i stumbled upon warrior forum when i first started. there's useful info for sure, but it seems like a giant circle jerk of WSOs.
congrats to allen... he started that thing way back in the day from nothing... kept at it.
that place made lots of people, lots of money...
sure a lot of the products are crap, and the reviews on the products are utter nonsense... but what do you expect? It's a MMO site selling to MMO junkies.
I think he sold it for WAY too cheap. 3x valuation? nuts... i think he could have gotten at least 5-8x
probably wanted out.
that site should have been doing more than a mill also... think allen was just kinda coasting, enjoying the $$ while not doing much.
cant say much about freelancer.com.... they seemed to suck, so now they own WF and they still seem to suck
