For a while now i have had an idea to invent something. I think this something is pretty awesome, and it is no where. I have even put a lot of time into designing this something on paper. I have never invented anything before so i have no clue as to the steps i should take. I did some researched and found that there are companies that deal solely with providing experts (ie wielders,mechanics) for hire to inventors. I was not sure if this is a good idea or should i personally hire someone myself. I am not sure who to consult when inventing this something. I do not want my idea stolen or played down. I am really passionate about inventing this something.
For those who are inventors on here, what steps did you take when you made your inventions. What sort of lawyers did you contact, and at what step. Did you pay out of pocket or look for loans for investors? I read that i should file for a patent but then that will make my idea public for people to scam. For the something i am creating, through researched have found that a company makes a component that would work great with my invention. I am not sure how and if i should approach this company.
I really have a good idea about this something but i think i need to create it asap before there is no longer a market for it.

I've never touched this stuff, but have a friend who owns a custom jewlery company.
They designed it on paper, hired someone to design 3d models of it, then brought the CAD files to metal companies who create it.
Now they offshore everything in the phillipines i think, and it's all created by hand (this helps with marketing too), but that was their first steps.

I have been through the patent process twice and each time cost me $15,000 USD. Seek out a Intellectual Property attorney in your town and ask. Before you discuss having prototypes made get a non-disclosure agreement signed so your idea is protected. There is nothing that will save you from someone leaking your idea, you are merely putting in place the necessary precautions to collect at a later date.
Ideas are a dime a dozen. Execution is the only thing that matters.
