Hey guys,
I've been studying posts like a crazy man for the past few weeks, and have come across several people mentioning that they pre-test an offer by:
I do this with almost every new offer I take on. When I see something I could possibly be interested in, I run it with some traffic to see how it performs in the wild. Before I get busy thinkering about it, I want to see whether it converts at all. Some offers just don't. Why is that? There could be a hundred possible reasons - from simply not working on your traffic source to not optimized LP, too many redirects, broken path...
Sometimes when you look at the offer it makes perfect sense, everything works well and it seems like it should convert - well except that sometimes it doesn't. That's why I run it on stock creative, direct linked or with a generic LP and see if it takes off. Note that one conversion doesn't really mean it's a winner. You should run it till you get statistically significant data. This will be different for every offer. Without giving numbers I would say it should give you confidence that it has a potential. If it does; then I roll my sleeves and properly plan and deploy a campaign for it.
I always do this on a traffic source that I know well and which has a history of converting similar offers. Some offers you can see everyone running, so it kinda tells you that they do convert for someone - especially if you've seen them around for a while - so you don't need to do this for those. This is where spy tools can save you a lot of time and money. Having a good, trustworthy manager also cuts the need for this many times.
To add to stanislavs comment - using spy tools like wrw can help you get data on where a particular offer worked well... what traffic sources. I always due dilligence and you should too.
Thanks for the input. I have a WRW subscription.....but it doesn't seem to spy on any of the typical mobile banner sizes
Past 2 days I've been testing a bunch of offers, and it's amazing how many are getting huge clicks and no conversions (using stock banners).
As I'm a fan of systemising absolutely everything, can anyone suggest a standard budget for testing (or a multiple of offer payout)?
Find reliable AM's that will tell you if an offer works or not. Spy tools for mobile is almost irrelevant. Learn to come up with angles fast and learn to make banners fast. Network creatives (generally) are useless since they are only there to "brand" the offer. No angle and no creativity.
Spending hours trying to think if you should test an offer is a waste of time.
For mobile in Tier 1 Geo's you can't really test for less than $200 (depending on the traffic source off course).
Tier 3 countries you can test for cheap, get data fast
Hi guys, do you recommend to test the offer in several traffic sources or just one? As I heard here in the forum an offer could perform differently depending of the traffic source.
