Hi
I'm a newbie here and I'd like to start in IM, following a very interesting case study by Glen Allsop on his blog viperchill.com.
Let me tell you my story very quickly:
- I'm kind of a newbie in AM. I earned something like 250$ in affiliation, I had some banners on one niche site and they generated me some commission on every sale. Nothing fancy and it was only an attempt at affiliation, so I don't consider myself as an expert. Quiet the opposite.
- I'm NOT a newbie in IM. I've done some niche sites, earned in total something like 800$ in Adsense and ranked some sites #1 even tho Google killed me in October - and I never quite managed to recover.
- I've tried to sell some 1tpe products past week on Facebook. Well at least I did all the testing part: rotate a lot of texts, images and some demographics and retrieve the best configuration, I found something with more than 1% CTR so I was pretty happy. Then I decided to go real and tried to promote a 1tpe offer (1tpe is something similar to Clickbank, but for France)... but unfortuantely it seems 1tpe urls are banned from Facebook so I stopped there my tests and decided to take some distance.
I've read a few threads here, and now some questions:
- is starting AM on Facebook a good idea? isn't it too hard or too dangerous (ban risk)
- what would be the best verticals to start on Facebook and avoid any ban? I've read around that app installs or gaming are good... but I guess that if everybody read it, everybody will go for those and so it might not be as good, right? Is it better to find a profitable niche (maybe not very famous but not as crowdy)
- would you suggest to start working for leads, sales, clicks, emails? My idea was to start promoting an ebook I've found on a site similar to Clickbank... kind of cheap... but maybe sales are too complicated to get for a start?
- what about Clickbank productS? would you recommend to me promoting them? Do they work in countries like India, Thailand, .....? Any kind of recommended products?
- what about other affiliate programs like commission junction, adsimilis, f5... is it necessary to have a website? I'd like to first find an offer that I'm interested in, and then maybe build up a website around that offer (this means I would apply WITHOUT a website)
- I'm working on other stuff as well (quality blogs, niche sites, ...)... all this on my spare time. Would you say that adding something new (Affiliate Marketing) is dangerous? How much time a day or a week would I need to work on this to start seeing some profits (based on your own experience).
My overall strategy is:
- first test cheap clicks in a "cheap" country to see the best ad/text/image/offer combination
- start a campaign in my target country (obviously clicks will be more expensive)...
=> Does it make sense to do this? Maybe the best image and text in cheap country would not work for not so cheap country? What is your experience about this?
Let's see what you can tell me about this.

This might be useful ;D - http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...el-Guide-to-FB
Clickbank offers are not an ideal place to start on FB... they virtually all want a person to whip out a credit card and that immediately makes things more difficult for you - a lot more testing needed, good ad copy, knowledge of how to effectively target and convert the right demographic, a decent budget, etc.
I would recommend joining e.g. F5 Media, Adsimilis etc. and thinking of a safe vertical to start playing with on FB.
Hi,
Thanks for your answer, I'll definitely check your link.
What do you call a safe vertical?
Nicolas.
Wow you really wrote that post some hours ago!!! Should i say thanks?
Welcome to STM!
I'd agree with Zeno - the problem with Clickbank offers is that they'll need a lot higher budget to test. Assume that you'll need about 10x the payout of an offer to give it a thorough test on a campaign, assuming that campaign isn't a total loser. Then assume that you'll need to launch around 30 campaigns, maybe more, to find a winner!
(That winner will usually then promptly pay for all the other campaigns - but the initial testing budget can still be an issue.)
Fortunately, there was a recent thread about safe FB verticals, as well as the guide Zeno links - which is seriously awesome, btw.

Awesome guys! Many thanks!
I can see you're very helpful. I was just checking Zeno's thread right now. I subscribed to STM a bit out of curiosity, but had in mind to give up on Affiliate Marketing anyway (timeconsuming and stuff...)... but with all the info you are sharing, It might be worth to test... At least try it
Thank you!
