Hi,
I don't have much to say about it really, basically im picking up 300K unique visits a month from organic traffic - and most would say 'dead traffic'.
So here is me being open, its like Q&A stuff - someone queries the SE for say 'How to tie a shoelace' they land, get the answer and bounce out, so my bounce rates are around 85/90%.
The geo is like this:
UK: 75%
US: 10%
Other: 15%
Device is like this:
Mobile: 54%
Desktop: 35%
Tablet: 11%
Because of the nature of the content its highly shareable lots of F, T and G+'s - natural.
I run adsense at the moment RPM around £5 ($8.30).
Any ideas for making more money than a fiver for every 1k visits? If it helps I can suck this traffic up into a email list maybe pick up a 2% signup rate if I shuffle my CTA's.
Thanks
Try and figure out the demographics, then find a 'relatable' mass-appeal offer...
"The first thing a girl notices about a guy is his shoes. Tie your shoe lace like this and make any girl want you" - Dating/Adult/PUA
"This game is more dangerous than than an untied shoelace" - App install / Game toolbar
"Get self tying shoe laces" - Amazon/Ebay affiliate programs
"Get a £50 voucher for Shoes at Primark" - Primark email submit
Looks like you have a lot of mobile traffic, ask your AMs for something with high CPI conversions and try to make it a little bit relatable.
AM is all about the angles! I used to work with dead traffic sites before I got into affmarketing years ago.
Still have around 100EMDs from those days, yikes. Time to let them go I think.
If it's a Q&A site you run, that makes it a little harder. In the end though, everything has a workable angle, it's just a matter of finding it!
Thanks very much, good reply.
My example was fictional but I can defiantly see the point you are trying to get across.
I guess this all comes under CRO to a certain extent, the only way for me to find out my demographic is by surveying the visitors - the same approach 99% of CRO's would take and I guess the most important stat would be the male / female split, thoughts?
So... one thing you mentioned and I have thought about before (because of the large mobile traffic) is pushing app sales, but a little unsure where/how I would do this?
At a complete guess - signup to apple/amazon aff program - how much commission (roughly) can one pick up on an app sale?
You could build a survey and by all means do. If it were one of my sites I'd dive in at the deep end and just fire up some text links on rotation and see which ones get the best CTRs, then expand from there, some demographics just don't do surveys and you can always get unexpected results if you try something outside of the box.
Depends 100% on your angle but I'd try all the options I mentioned. I'd try a mix of mobile dating, game installs, amazon/ebay links and see which does best and move up from there. The guys behind STM run the F5Media affiliate network, apply there and they will suggest some dating/CPI offers. As for Ebay/Amazon, It 100% depends on the angle and the product you can convince them to buy - so go for gaming/dating first. You should be able to make more running CPI for free games via affiliate networks. Although your choice will be limited. Give this a test and see how you get on! Look forward to hearing your results next week.
