Content Recommendation Systems: Taboola, Outbrain, Nrelate etc. (28)

Content Recommendation Systems: Taboola, Outbrain, Nrelate etc.

Have any of you had any luck with any of these?

I see a lot of affiliate based advertorial sites such as HowLifeWorks.com or NextAdvisor.com using them all the time, so it must be working for them to some extent. They seem to run primarily finance campaigns which are of course higher payout than many others. Off the top of my head the pros I would imagine are lower CPC for more competitive verticals than other sources & easy to make an ad appealing, the cons are that people aren't really in buy mode when they click on more content to read and acceptance of content (Outbrain seems like they have higher quality standards than Nrelate & Taboola which seem like they accept crap).

Would love to hear any of your experiences.

It's been a week since I submitted an ad to outbrain and it has yet to be approved.

Not a promising start...

I am interested in this too. Maybe someone who knows can explain how it works.

My day job works with How Life Works and has active campaigns with Outbrain and Taboola, along with a few other similar services. It's highly lucrative for us, but our customer LTV is somewhere between $80 -$100 depending on the product.

Can you tell us more about how this works with How Life Works? Is that HowLifeWorks.com? Is see it's one of those advertorial sites. So if I wanted to work with them, can I just put my own article/LP on their site and run it via content promotion network? Or do they do it for me? How do they charge for it? What kind of volume can they deliver? Is their newsletter included in the offer?

I'm planning to develop a site like HLW to push my own product. Fill it with a number of affiliate offers in the same vertical just to have more content on the site. Going down the high quality content + high value offers + multiple lead capture setups and then promoting with these networks and Search PPC.

What's your take on this prediction:

Is Native Advertising Legal? Does It Matter?

I start this article with three controversial statements:

  1. Native advertising likely violates Federal Trade Commission (FTC) rules on deceptive advertising
  2. Native advertisers and publishers will profit tremendously from these violations and receive little to no punishment or regulation from the FTC
  3. This concept, which I call “regulatory arbitrage,” has been proven to be highly profitable, having been proven by many other internet businesses

This thread has died a bit, but I am also interested in Taboola and other networks. I noticed every single Clickbank product that is top 30 has someone getting LOTS of traffic from that network. I am not joking, EVERY SINGLE top product in Clickbank regardless of niche gets a boatload of traffic from there.

So I'd like to know what's going on.

Outbrain has been great for us.

I hadn't thought about using it as an affiliate traffic source (although some real gems just popped into my head), however for content distribution/brand we've seen some really solid results.

Can anyone explain how to run campaigns on taboola/outbrain?
The majority of ads are news articles.

WRW is pretty strong with competitive intelligence for these types of platforms. These are news types of ads, basically Native Ads, that work well with Advertorial style pages. Take a look at what types of banners, LP, and offers are working and try to model parts of that and improve where you can. BTW some others that was not mentioned that are worth looking into are ContentRev which is run by Clickbooth CPC, Yabuka, and Wam. Those should provide you some solid starting points.

Thanks guys, I want to promote Forex, adwords and facebook have nothing on that.

My question is they will approve single page lp's or I need these time consuming news style websites?

You will need to spend a lot of time creating a content hub.

Your best chance for approvals with them is to create a full website... having all the tabs in the navigation actually link to those pages, and have those pages have articles written for them. Best example I can give about that: http://howlifeworks.com ... sites similar to this are approved there.

huh, not an easy task since I am running in three languages...hope it will worth it.

Taboola is much easier to get approved on than Outbrain.

But, Outbrain features on higher quality sites in general.

Neither are cheap clicks though so would have to be a known converting offer and retargeting I would think to be green.

Added Sergein on Skype and he delivered a fully automated WP site with hundreds of articles freshly scraped from around the web. Its really amazing, the site looks highly professional and is full of amazing content. The best part is that he just had it scrape all the articles overnight and it turned out great.

Im sending the site now to Taboola and Outbrain and will let you know how it goes.

Sergein is also very helpful and corrected minor mistakes like adjusting featured images etc., will definitely order a lot more sites like that in the future!

Hint: Also very useful for all you cloakers out there that need new sites up and running all the time.

Be careful with auto scraper sites, just got a DMCA takedown from a news site for reposting RSS and I even cited the source.

I am guessing, google is the only site that google allows to scrape the web automatically btw, my scripts are custom for different sites and scrape on demand.
