Yo Stackers,
My business partner Jackson and I recently returned from the STM event in Bangkok, Thailand, and we wanted to share a few quick thoughts (now that we’ve had a few days to recuperate from the epic partying…I actually missed my flight home because that final STM party night in Bangkok ended up going into the wee hours of the morning!!)
We’re going to fill out the survey as Mr. Green has requested (check out his “Feedback Wanted” thread), but for the sake of those who weren’t able to attend, we figured the STM members might appreciate hearing a detailed perspective of a regular forum member who was in attendance.
First off, we’ve been to numerous masterminds and IM events around the world (just a few weeks ago we were at one in New Zealand), so we’ve got a pretty good gauge for measuring the quality of an event (and the people at the event).
However, we only joined the STM forum about a month and a half ago, so we literally did not know a single person who would be there. We bought tickets and just went for it!
As it turned out, STM Bangkok was probably our favorite event so far. Bangkok was an inspired choice as an event location and I was surprised at how many badass marketers are already living there. (I’ve been living in the Philippines for years and have been contemplating moving to Thailand, and after this event I’ve decided to make the move to Thailand.)
The first night, the inner-circle STM crew organized a huge conference room (with open bar!) at one of the classiest hotels in Bangkok, with a podium at the front for speakers. I showed up early when the room was virtually empty and helped myself to some free beers, provided by the courteous Thai bartenders. I looked around the room and saw several hundred empty chairs set up.
I didn’t imagine the room would be PACKED thirty minutes later! Literally, it was standing-room only by the time the speakers began.
The speakers were excellent (they included Mr. Green himself, and Maynzie, who told me he had barely any time to prepare his speech, but he did an awesome job). Meanwhile, the proceedings were kept moving along at a swift and professional pace by the evening’s emcee, Caurmen (his handle on STM). I vote for Caurmen to emceee all future STM events, and his passion for filmmaking only makes him more of a badass in my book.
After the speakers, it was on to the Ocean Club (a bar/nightclub with a large outdoor pool). I was the ONLY member to bring a bathing suit and leap into the pool, which felt downright orgasmic after spending a day running around in jeans and a button-down shirt in the stifling Bangkok heat.
The next few days involved activities around Bangkok and more partying, partying, partying. And NETWORKING. What really turned me into an STM believer was the quality of the people in attendance. These are people who are truly “stacking that money.”
Unlike at other conferences, I didn’t meet a single newbie who was hoping to pick my brain and discover the “magic bullet” that would allow them to quit their day job; no, this crowd was a startling assortment of international ninjas who were already achieving astonishing results and living out their dreams of living and working wherever they please.
Interestingly, my partner Jackson and I were a rarity at this event, because we are product creators first and foremost. We have a variety of our own successful offers that we have created in the dating market. We are always seeking good affiliates and more traffic, and that’s one of the reasons why we joined this forum. (Please send us a private message if you’d like details on what we’ve got--especially if you buy adult or Facebook traffic.)
So for us, it was a huge win on a lot of levels. I told Mr. Green that I would love to speak at the next event, on the subject of “How To Create Your Own Top-Selling Information Product In 7 Days And Get Hordes Of Hungry Buyers To Shovel Passive Income Into Your Pockets For The Rest Of Your Life…Guaranteed!”
Aw, the copywriter in me just came out...but yeah, I do think learning about product creation and creating devastatingly effective sales funnels would be something that could help STM members take their game to another level.
It was an unforgettable event and Jackson and I thank all of you who organized it and made it happen. We made a lot of great friends there. You could hold the next event on Mars, and we’d figure out a way to get there.
Rob (and Jackson): aka BEASTMODE
Thanks you for sharing your experience, sounds like a hell of a meet up. Looking forward to see the recordings.
And it's good to see a product creator/owner here on the forums, would love to hear more about that side of the business, you've got my vote to speak at the next event
Hey thanks man. I really appreciated the event and I thought the STM guys were super cool to host it and not charge for it. They spent a significant amount of money to rent out the conference room and pay for a bunch of other things, which showed me they appreciate their forum members a lot. They're not trying to make a quick buck, they are really building something, so they have my gratitude and I would encourage you to attend any future events. Hopefully next time you'll meet me after I come offstage after speaking!
Damn man thanks for the kind words!!! Nice meeting you man (and Jackson). Haha it was to dark to see who jumped into the pool, top marks for you for doing so, definitely an STM trait :P.
I've got you locked in for speaking at our next meet up, wherever in the world we decided to make it
. We will open up voting for the location sometime next week.
Really appreciate the writeup man. It was more work then expected to make it happen, but we absolutely loved throwing it and hearing all positive feedback makes it all worth it.
Next one is coming up in 2014, we already started throwing out ideas around in Koh Samui. Stay tuned!
Was a pleasure to meet the 50/50 of beastmode!
Glad you enjoyed your time man, we're in the works of planning the next one already, later this year shortly after ASE but in a different location which we will poll some places soon.
It certainly blew away our expectations, was absolutely fantastic and to those who came to Samui after that was a trip on its own lol!
Looking forward to seeing you 2 again, in a different city, with even more success!
Loved it!
Maybe you could have "group rotations" where it'd be easier to meet everyone who went there? Because there's so many people and it's hard to get a chance to really chat to everyone.
Also, where's the next event at?
as a new affiliate going to my first meetup, I have to admit, I enjoyed the hell out of that trip. Before arriving, I really had no idea what to expect. I didn't know if I would fit in, wondered if the crowd would be very "cliquey" but not at all.
everyone was super friendly. there was literally not one person I didnt get along with. Learnt a lot, made some really good contacts. I think the fact the meetup was in Thailand really made it just that much better
the only few things that I can think of that went wrong this trip was the fact I got a bit sick and not writing down peoples names/contact info.
I am notoriously bad for remembering names.
cheers for everyone who organized the meetup and everyone who attended.
