TJ Adult newbie campaign - what am I doing wrong?

Hi STMers!

I have been working with TJ and adult dating for a little over 6 weeks now. I am new to AM and STM, have been reading up on these forums, learning by doing and now believe I am doing some things wrong...

First of all, here is my setup:

Budget: $2000+ a month
Beyond VPS
CPVLab
Positive mental attitude

2 countries, one english speaking (over 200 conversions), one new non-english speaking (Euro) - both are not top tier

2 offers currently (one for each country,) have tested several in each Geo and arrived at each chosen offer as it seems to convert. Have already got a $1 bump on my main offer that is converting and my AM seems cool.

2 landing pages, ripped but customized to varying degrees. Both are rules type one with graphic (split tested a few so far to find the best pic,) the other has no graphics (sure you have seen it before)

Have been using a lander exit block which seems to work, cept when it is time for ad approvals and I forget to turn it off

Approach:

-Thus far have resisted the urge (tough when you're struggling) to try anything other than adult dating on tube traffic

-Focusing on TJ at this point for traffic. I do have some credit at Exo but so far have spent 200 and haven't had much luck getting conversions from this source.

-Have done some day parting, it gets more profitable but the traffic levels and revenues go way down.

-I have been recently bidding in a placement (YouPorn NTV B) that will allow me to get in the top 3 with a bid approximately 1/4th of the top bid and started with footer squares to learn on the cheap. Unfortunately this is not working too well because footer squares don't convert the best and on NTV with low bid, as soon as competition comes in my rank goes down and traffic dies way down. I am thinking I need to get to bidding close to the max on a few premium placements (NTV?) so I don't suffer the fate of only getting minimal dregs traffic and never being able to scale?!

-I have been using 2 angles, one is an oldie and it seems to convert OK. Another angle (I think that is what it is, most def a unique headline and picture) I came up with seems to convert well with an ad where the picture matches the picture on the landing page. This landing page has also been rejiggered to be similar to the offer page.

-Creatives (mostly 300x250) thus far have been static (youporn NTV.) I have created many custom ads and have run them along with some ripped ads for reference. I have tested over 70 ads, had a few of my ads generate a CTR and/or CVR close to the best of the ripped ads.

Questions:

-What advice do you have for me to get out of this rut and to my goal of consistent $100 profit days?

-What tools do you use to create animated banners? I know you can use PS for animated rotating gifs, what about making the video banners with text?

To Do:

-Learn to make animated banners in PS

-Grow a pair and starting bidding in the same range as those consistently in the top 3 ranks

-Start a follow along campaign

-make $100 a day profits

-Save the whales (jk, not running BBpeople meet)

Thanks for reading this far. Any comments, advice, flames, etc much appreciated.

Stay fresh!

-Nate

Hey Nate, to make a profit on TJ ( which is very competitive ) you need to have an advantage.

Just running an offer with a normal payout, with a page everyone uses on a popular traffic source will be very hard to profit.

You need an advantage, in your case it could be :

1 - Private higher payout on offer you run
2 - Better converting lander compared to what everyone uses.
3 - Better / Original banners.
4 - Faster / Better optimized server

The more you have of the above, the higher the ROI will be.

Thanks for your reply. Here are my comments based on your points:

1. I got a bump from the advertiser just last week, so that will help
2. Going to try some other styles of lander besides the rules type we see everywhere
3. I am always creating trying new banners to find out what may give a high CTR CVR.
4. My page load scores from pingdom are 100 out of 100, so at my current traffic levels not sure it's an issue yet

Still have a few unanswered questions for the group:

-What tools do you use to create animated banners? I know you can use PS for animated rotating gifs, what about making the video banners with text?

-Do you use animated banners over static banners?

-Placements and bidding advice. NTV? Bidding at the top of the order even if it drives up the cost 4x?

-Alternative traffic sources for adult?

If you aren't comfortable blatting it out, please feel free to send me a PM.

Take care,

-Nate
