More newb questions haha. Do I need a seperate domain for my tracker?

I'm setup with a Beyondhosting VPS now. And I have a domain (appforyou-index.com......is this a good domain? I'm going to be doing mobile). Do I need to buy a separate domain now to install the STM mobile tracker on? Or does that also go on the first domain I bought? I've read the install guide, downloaded and unzipped the files for the STM tracker and I'm ready to go. Just need this question answered first. Also, is the STM tracker only for mobile or for web also?

1. Ideally just get a different domain and add it as an 'addon domain' in cPanel. Then install prosper202 in that addon domain.
2. The STM tracker is for mobile and web.

Does this like right to you? I got another domain, named it skytracking.org, and made it an addon to my main domain. Do I click that blue root document and proceed with the installation of STM tracker now? And am I supposed to have it redirect somewhere?

No it doesn't need to redirect anywhere. Just make an FTP account for it in cPanel > then connect via something like FileZilla and upload all the STM tracker goodies, then run skytracking.org/install.php

Ideally yes you want a seperate domain for tracking vs all your campaigns

Ok I've completed the instructions in the STM tracker install thread but I'm having some errors unfortunately. Not sure how to fix them. After I navigated to the domain I'm using for tracking, I see this:

Warning: include_once(/home/appforyo/public_html/skytracking.org/202-config/functions-auth.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/appforyo/public_html/skytracking.org/202-config/connect.php on line 33

If I remember rightly this may be an issue of having to enable short tags in php.ini (short_open_tag=On). Ask BH to do so for you.

Might be something else though!

I reread the STM tracker setup thread. And I noticed you and a lot of others stating that this won't work with the beyond hosting starter VPS. So I'm going to upgrade and see if that fixes my troubles.

Oh right, yes there are limitations with the starter VPS due to shared resources and other things.

What are the reason/s for this? Speed?

1. Not linking all your stuff together, i.e. making it harder for people to see what else you are running (pretty easy to spy on someones campaigns if they always use the same domain for everything.)
2. Not risking blacklisting of your tracking domain due to an uncompliant lander.

Could you specify what you mean? I was thinking of getting the BH starter VPS but after I read this I am not sure. Thanks!!!

The Starter VPS is a hybrid of sorts - you don't have root access to the VPS and as far as I am aware it's core OS, installed modules etc. are shared between users.

An analogy would be multiple users all logged into the same computer, using programs and doing stuff, but they can't install any programs as only the admin can change what's installed and available to all users.

Tyler could give a much better explanation of what the Starter VPS limitations are.

However, for the price and the performance, you will be getting a lot of value. BH know affiliate marketing so even with these limitations you will likely have everything you need. If you are not particularly techy i.e. don't want to install PHP modules, NewRelic, etc. then you'd probably never know about these limitations anyway!

Thanks Zeno for the great explanation!!! For starting off it sounds like I wouldnt need much more and I am sure once get to the point where need to upgrade BH would make that easy.

Yes, absolutely. In terms of usability for someone new to IM, level of support and value for money you'll be hard pressed to find anything that beats the Starter VPS BH offers.

I don't get it.
If I were to use different domain for my landing pages, how am I going to track my conversions?
Let's say I have a domain name tracker.com for the Prosper202.
I would still have to upload my .php landing page files to tracker.com in order to track the conversions right?
Can anyone provide a guide as to how it works and what should be done in order to get this thing right?

Your landing pages can be on any domain you like. You put the appropriate landing page URL in the when adding landing pages to your campaigns in tracking202 - the specific domain used in irrelevant.

You send users to a tracking202 URL which has some specific domain. It then sends users to a landing page which could be anywhere on any domain.

The user then clicks a link on your lander which takes them back to tracking202 and out to the offer.

The tracking system and landing pages are entirely separate things.

There are numerous guides on the forum on using p202 - for vanilla p202 - http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...Campaign-Setup
