Hey guys. So the last time I posted, I was working on testing out my ad optimization skills by getting Facebook likes to my fan page. I know, really exciting stuff! Since then, I've tried optimizing my ads for conversions. I tried about 50 different ad copy's, 20 different images, 10 different headlines, and recently started testing with different demographics after finding the best image and headline. I am getting on average a 1.4% CTR and as high as 2.4% CTR on some of my ad copies, but my conversions are just not occurring. I have a free membership site so the only commitment is a name and email address. I am getting up to 100 clicks on some ads but 1 to 2 conversions total. Ive even ran 3 different landing pages to see which ones would convert better. On the landing page I used the same image and headlines as in the ads. I also include the demographics such as age and country to personalize the landing pages. Does anyone have any advise for a desperate newb? Also, I have a 2.4% CTR for one of my ads that's supposed to get me fan page likes, which is actually costing $1.14 per CPM while a lower converting add at 1.158% CTR is costing $.44. I may be misunderstanding things but if the ad copy is better in terms of CTR, the ad is supposed to be cheaper? Thanks for all your help in advanced gentlemen!
If you're getting high CTR but low conversions, it's likely that either a) there's a poor flow between ad and landing page, or b) your landing page just doesn't work well.
Testing 3 different landing pages is good, but it sounds like you need to do more tests to find a better-converting landing page. What were the differences between the 3 you tested? Did you present a compelling reason why the visitor would want to leave his/her name and email address?
Who are you targeting and what makes you think they are going to convert well?
What ad copy are you using - does it imply there is going to be an email signup that gives them some sort of benefit?
I am letting it all out here guys. Maybe others can benefit from this is well. So I have a company online that offers IT training. Basically videos that teach a certain topic in IT. I am well familiar with this industry and a lot of individuals that look for this type of training are usually from India. That's how I know what countries to target along with what images I chose. I feel like my sign up page touches base on everything these individuals look for in this type of course. My opt in page is at http://www.qtptutorial.net/register/...ivemembership/ or you can check out a screen shot below of what it looks like. I am open to all criticism

Are you loading that page in a page tab and linking your FB page ads to that? Or are you trying to get visitors to your page to click out on some link to it?
IMO, the sign up form is too long. Why do you need my first and last name to give me something free? Why do I need to give a username AND an email address? It could simply be email address and then you could email me account info, a randomly generated password, and could let me personalise my account later. Make it easy for me to get an account.
Secondly, why is all this at the bottom, well below the fold? Put the punchline at the top and an opt-in right there. Tell me about the benefits afterward, don't make me scroll down an entire page to find that an opt-in/signup form even exists.
Lastly, you could make a single page squeeze page instead of this blog style lander that has stuff on the right hand side and comments that are largely irrelevant and distracting.
Thanks for your advice Zeno. Because I'm running a site on wordpress, I am limited in my capabilities. My site is ran through a membership plugin which has it's own password and username set up. I can't generate passwords. However, I limited the fields to just 4 fields and cleaned up the rest of the page. Take a look below.

You could make a squeeze page separate to your main site that gets their email and send them something free, then also links them to your main sign up page. If your goal is getting sign ups then perhaps lower the barrier to entry, give them something they want and convert them fully afterward.
You could host the lander for this in a page tab and use any autoresponder service, e.g. MailChimp, GetResponse, etc.
Thanks Zeno that's exactly what I did. I split tested between two simple squeeze pages with just the name and email, along with my original subscriber page. The conversion went through the roof once I had a simple sign up squeeze page. Now my motivation and confidence is rejuvenated and I'm testing the landing pages further. Thanks so much Zeno!! You da man!!
Can you explain to me how this works? I thought that the more optimized the ad and the better the campaign works, the cheaper the clicks? For 330 views I had over 2% click through rate and over 14% conversion rate on those clicks for subscribers! but I got charged 3.41 for those 330 views? I'm a little confused. Can anyone clarify? I attached images below.
I'm not sure what you mean - are you saying the ad did worse today than yesterday? Cost more and performed poorly? This 330/2%/14% data - are you talking about the data in the screenshot?
Yea I'm saying that the ad was pretty optimal in terms of conversions rates and ctr, but I was charged way more than I usually get charged. I thought that the better your ad performs the cheaper the CPA?
I'm saying that performance of the ad was really good but my cost for that initial 330 people reach was over 3$? Usually, I reach about 3 or 4 thousand people and pay that amount? I thought the better he ad, the less it costs?
I think you may be missing the fact that you're using an oCPM bidding mode - so the CPM will vary and may be higher than you are used to. Do you usually get much cheaper clicks/CPA using the same newsfeed ads but with a CPC bidding mode? If so then try doing that again.
My ad was performing very well but just costing a lot more than I would usually pay. I thought that the better he ad did, the cheaper your ad would be?
This is true, but not when you change between bidding modes and/or if the CPM bid changes.
I was asking why Facebook is charging me more when my ad is performing really well? High conversion and CTR but I'm paying over $3 dollars for a reach of 300 people? What I notices is that I set this ad up to run in the newsfeed only. Maybe that's why? Anyways. Just a quick update on how I'm doing. Due to your help Zeno, I was able create some simple yet sleek landing pages which I ran with my best ads. I used lead pages which specializes in conversions and creating squeeze pages. My conversions went through the roof and now I am averaging $.20 cents per conversion and convering 1 of 7 people who click my site link. I attached a screen shot for you animals to see so you don't make the same mistakes I did.
Aww yeah that signup page looks hella better! Worlds apart from what you had originally - and $0.20 per new user is great!
As for CPM prices... they are what they are. The oCPM system will change the bid over time and the newsfeed is more expensive than the sidebar. $7.50 seems extremely expensive for India though... Maybe try normal CPM or CPC to restrict the pricing a lot more.
Thanks for all your help Zeno. I pulled a newb mistake and thought my reply wasn't being posted but it was just on the next page haha. That's why there is like 4 similar follow ups on the same topic.
Just to update everyone who's been following this campaign, I've been working on optimizing my website email conversions. I made over 12 squeeze pages with leadpages, which is great for quick squeeze page creation. I used all my best ads with high CTR and I tested them all for each of my best ads. This gave me even better conversions and my best conversion rate I was paying for was .08 cents which is pretty freaking awesome. I've gotten over 300 new subscribers for a small price and I keep optimizing my titles, headlines, landing pages, and testing with all possible age groups. I will be releasing a paid subscription site on my bestie this month and I am interested to see how many individuals I can get to sign up. My conversion rates have been pretty high once individuals click through to my offer so it should be interesting to see if I can make a profit off a $30/month product that's completely a 100% all mine. I also set up my beyond hosting domain and had them install prosper 202, which was free and took only one minute. I have 3 affiliate programs I signed up with and will start promoting the offers the next chance I get. I will be learning adobe muse this week for creating landing pages without coding. Although I have coding experience, I need something quick an easy. And due to my experience with Adobe tools such as photoshop, dream weaver, and illustrator, muse should be no problem to learn. As soon as I have my landing pages and tracking set up with these pages, I will start running my offers. Stay tuned.......
