I was reading through the getting started tutorials and I saw the info about needing a VPS to host my landing pages. So I proceeded to the Beyondhosting site and selected the package but then I'm confronted with this:

I have no idea what I'm supposed to input here. And how do I have them install prosper202 for me? And what is the final price per month after I apply my stm coupon code?
I went through this same confusion not too long ago.
You're going to have to pick a domain name to buy (costs like 11 bucks a year) to host your images, landing pages, etc on. It can be anything really. For example if you are running on plenty of fish something like www.pofdateservice.com would work if available. You can buy the site through any of the domain registry services or Beyondhosting has their own service. I just went through them for convenience. If I recall you enter it there and have the ability to buy it once you are further along.
As for Prosper, again if I recall correctly, there is an option later to type in requests. (Or maybe it was a check box next to Prosper202). It will become clear when you get there.
As for the cost it depends which package you end up with. The STM was what 50 percent off? I only signed up for a month initially so it was like 16 bucks since they prorate the month. In other words since we are almost halfway through March the month to month package price would be a little more than half. So half of half basically.
Hope that helps. Sorry for the hazy memory.
Edit- Not to discourage but rather prepare you....It seems you have about as much tech knowledge as I did. You will hit a bunch of these little hiccups where you think "what the hell...no one mentioned this step...I have no clue what to do". Just ask (this forum is great), fiddle, and you'll get there.
I would tick use existing domain and then buy a domain cheap from a registrar like Namecheap. I buy .pw domains as they are $4/year and you get free WHOIS protection + cheap PositiveSSL if you want it. Domain names are churn and burn, buy cheap with free addons and just discard instead of renewing. If you buy one at Namecheap all you need to do is change the nameserver setup for the domain (easily done in the Namecheap control panel) to point it to your BeyondHosting VPS. BeyondHosting will be able to tell you what those details have to be.
Zeno,
You don't think there's enough added credibility by having ".com" in your landing page name rather than ".pw"? I would expect it to certainly be worth 7-8 bucks a year. That's based on nothing more than gut feeling though.
You'd have to split test it - many people have, some people have reported no significant difference when using .com vs .net vs .info, others say otherwise, many suggest using .com as everyone knows it, but this is just a rather safe than sorry approach. Go for .com if you have any concerns... but nowadays they are rolling out TLDs like hotcakes - .xxx, .today, .io, .pw, .photography, .games, etc. End users are going to care about it less and less.
yes, you have to buy a domain.
PS: for name.com free who.is privacy, use the coupon code "PRIVACYPLEASE"
if this is your first time setting up a server, I highly highly suggest you hire someone to do it for you. it can get quite complicated for someone their first time
I switched to a different VPS not too long ago, tried to configure it myself despite everyone's suggestion to hire somebody. in the end, I had to hire someone.
here's the thread in question:
