Are You Honest With Your CTA's?

Are You Honest With Your CTA's?

Experienced affiliates,
have you tested this with your call-to-action buttons/links?

Case 1 - Gaming

a) "Play Now - Free!" -> User is taken to the offer registration page (he is not "playing" right now).
b) "Sign Up Now - Free" -> User is taken to the offer registration page (he is actually doing what the CTA told him to to; "signing up").

Case 2 - Dating

a) "Meet a Woman Tonight" -> User is taken to the offer registration page (he is not "meeting a woman" right now).
b) "Sign Up Now To Meet a Woman Tonight" -> User is taken to the offer registration page (he is actually doing what the CTA told him to to; "signing up to meet women later").

I have two hypotheses:

• Users are promised something they don't immediately get, and might therefore be even more tempted to continue signing up. CVR increases.
• Users are dissapointed. They leave. CVR drops.

What are your thoughts on this? Share with us now!

I'm not experienced, but here is my opinion based on UI/UX principles.
I didn't even bother with simple CTAs. "Take Me To Sign Up Page" sounds better than "Sign Up Now".
Also a good read for everyone and their landing pages: GoodUI

At least with gaming I opt for the latter - Register now, sign up now, register and download now, etc. The way I see it, if you give them a heads up that there is a sign up form, a download or something else coming there way then they are already mentally prepared for it. The last thing you want is someone to click "Play now" then see a sign up form and be like bleh cant be bothered, bye. It's the same dogma as not using free on dating landers, so that user expectations are cohesive with the offer.

I feel like i've split tested this at some point, but we should again. Seeing if conversions are better with honest CTA's

In my testing, the best CTA either promises a compelling benefit or directs users in exactly what to do.

Often, going into way more detail than you'd expect to need can boost conversions. For example, adding "click on the button, then fill in the short form. Then click "join" to see pictures" at the end of the copy.

However. I agree, time for a split test. Adding it to the post bkk to do!

Great stuff, my friends

I'm doing some testing on this as we speak. Will keep you informed when I have enough statistical significance.
