Best Way To Create A Landing Page in 2014

I'm getting ready to launch my first campaign and trying to decide on how to build the LP. I noted that many people just use notepad as the LPs are usually very simple... is that still most peoples preference?

Because of my familiarity with WordPress, I was thinking of installing a basic theme and customizing. The CMS makes it pretty easy and I'm intimidated by code

Others have recommended WYSIWYG Web Builders (I think this one? wysiwygwebbuilder.com)?

So - question to all you vets, what's the best way to build a landing page?

https://courses.tutsplus.com/courses...learn-html-css

"30 days" = 2-3 days max. Super easy to learn basic html / css, basic js / jquery that is used on 99% of the LPs out there can also be learned in a day max.

The reason I learned to code was because those wysiwyg builders are harder to learn how to use than actually learning how to code which is way more useful in the long run.

Use Notepad++ and open existing landers and tinker with the code. If you don't know what something does just google it

Op, how can you be getting ready to launch if you haven't even built the LP?

I'd love to hear input from other people on this!

Because, After optimization... after nailing the traffic sources... and after getting drafts up for some great copy...

LP's are the #1 reason why my campaigns fail.

... but at the same time...

LP's are the #1 reason why my campaigns succeed.

As a long time engineer I have the necessary coding skills to craft landing pages from hand. But this is very time consuming. As an affiliate marketer I am gravitating against solutions that takes less time. We do not simply have the time to spend insane amounts of time on things before we TEST them. To be able to test a lot of landing pages in AM you can not spend as much time on them as they deserve.

There is a new and upcoming software called http://macaw.co that I have high hopes for. Adobe Muse is a great "WYSIWYG"-tool (what you see is what you get) but it is limited. For example, doing responsive design is not possible in Adobe Muse (but will be in Macaw). You are limited when it comes to inserting and modifying your own source code. But it makes up for it in the mere speed it takes to create LPs.

So the best way to create landing pages for me up until now has been:

• Use Adobe muse
• Create a "draft"
• Edit the code by hand. Tidy up and finish adding in all the components it should have.

Having enough skill to edit code by hand, is essential if you want to succeed with your landing pages. If you do not have the will to learn this, find someone who will and become friends with them (pay them). Ripping other people's work will not set you apart from the competition.

Do you need help with your landing pages? Feel free to send me a PM, I'm happy to contribute with my experience wherever I can.

@ keepitsimple - Have you personally been through this 30 day course?

Brushing up on my html/css skills is something I need to do, whilst I know how to do very basic things I would like to learn more to be able to edit landers better and ad my own unique spins on existing LP's

Wow Macaw looks awesome - thanks for bringing that to my attention!

To echo the comments of equadox... you really need to spend time where it is needed most and coding landers by hand is not it. Use Adobe Muse > export html > touch up code from there.

I will do a video tutorial on doing just this soon, so there will be some tutelage available on the forum!

HTML is easy and not complicated, although CSS has some tricks that will get you mad in a few minutes. Lynda tutorials explain better the CSS. Personally, I found CSS to be very tricky if you don't understand it well enough.

Yeah lol it's true - inheritance and positioning make rage cometh.

I'm new to this as my post count will attest to........ Can I ask what would be wrong with using something like Leadpages to create the LP? This would allow you to A/B test various options on the LP and even though I have a basic knowledge of HTML, Leadpages (or other services like UnBounce) can create slicker looking LPs than I can. Plus you can do it in just a couple of minutes.

lead pages, unbounce, etc are too slow for what we need... pure CSS and HTML is the way to go

Macaw looks very interesting - I've been following it for a while. Stm will get tutorials as soon as it's out.

Important thing with lander design - just like banners, ugly works. You don't need beautiful code OR beautiful design. That makes the entire process a lot easier.

It took me few hours to learn muse, try to follow(practice) some of the layout and design of past campaigns and you are good to go!

I took a look at Macaw and it look great, however, I wanted to know what you vets think of OptimizePress

03-12-2014 10:26 PM #20 zeno (Administrator)

I generally walk away from anything involving WordPress. You can make nice squeeze pages but I'd rather get it all done without WP - there are tonnes of bootstraps and templates out there and I like to keep pages 'light'.

I See... Thanks!

03-13-2014 05:47 PM #22 sandip (Member)

Thanks for all the feedback everyone!

Hmmm not sure whether to buy Muse or wait for Macaw (should be released end of this month)....

03-13-2014 07:19 PM #23 zeno (Administrator)

Just go for the Muse free trial for now. Muse also comes with Adobe Creative Cloud which is a monthly sub and includes the entire suite, i.e. photoshop, illustrator, dreamweaver, edge code, etc. You can always sub for 1 month and cancel. Better yet get a student friend and get the academic rate (for me it's ~$18/NZD month)

Great idea, will do that

These are two totally different services.

OptmizePress. Never tried it, but if anyone has please share your thoughts

03-14-2014 05:06 PM #26 aysunn (Member)

Last time I worked with OptimizePress, it was just a wordpress template with lots of customization. So that shouldn't be a difference, because Wordpress still runs on your server. I don't know really, is it the same or did they went all solo without depending on Wordpress?

03-15-2014 07:43 AM #27 zeno (Administrator)

Yeah I recall OptimizePress being built from WordPress but I may be mistaken - it may have changed.

Go over to Digital Point, find yourself a halfways understandable Filipino and outsource the shit work to them for a couple bucks an hour. Soon enough you'll find someone doing good work, at a good price, that literally sits on Skype all day just waiting for someone to send him a project to earn his next $5 USD. Pay them promptly upon completion of a good job, and they'll be messaging you asking if you have any new projects...

03-16-2014 04:32 AM #29 stackman (Administrator)

I design a PSD on photoshop and send it to a programmer or draw it up on paper and send it to a deisgner/programmer. Easiest if outsourcing is your kind of thing

Thanks that's good to know.
