A FB Gaming Campaign that gave me 400% ROI in 24 hours

A quick one for you lovely STM'ers today!
I want to share a campaign I just ran on Facebook.

Offer: Some card game
My demo: Pokèmon fans

Step 1)
I targetted Pokèmon TCG fans. Obviously Pokèmon TCG fans LOVES Pokèmon cards! So first I did some demo research and then tested with all the most shiny & valuable Pokèmon cards I could find. I made maybe 20 campaigns w/ a $1 budget and optimized from there (as the demo is very limited I did not have to put a lot of dollars into testing)

Here is one Ad that performed O.K – it was not my winner, but it made me money:

HINT: Pictures of "real" pokemon cards dominated:

Step 2)
Optimize optimize optimize! This exact demo is VERY LIMITED. Scrap bad performing ads, settle for no less than minimum .2CTR

Step 3)
Make a KILLER landing page for Pokemon fans. Make them feel welcome. Make their nerd juice tingle with excitement. How about wishing them welcome from their source with the official Pokemon font? I think so:

I also showed some of the best performing pokemon cards (that I got from earlier testing) on this page and made the users "pick one" - I used a customized version of jQuery/Codrop's pageturner plugin and made the landing page highly interactive with pokemon cards.

I milked this demo very quickly and killed the campaigns as soon as I saw an ad frequency of >15. However, this idea may be scaled vertically by applying the same idea to other demos. I tried this, and it worked. Coupled with some great angles this might be even more profitable (I didn't even have a special angle for this one)

All in all, although not a lot, this was EASY and fast money with a sky-high ROI. Feel free to take inspiration from this (do not simply copy my idea, that is never a good tactic), put a new spin on it and have fun with it yourself.

Do you love gaming offers? Have you made some good money on creative gaming angles / spins? I am setting up a gaming mastermind group and would love more great people to join! Come work with me on some exciting stuff.

PS: don't be afraid to say if you got some new ideas from this

Real interesting read,

Out of interest, and bear with me as im incredibly new at this! Are you selling the physical product itself? How are you monetizing this?

Much appreciated!
Dan

Thanks for the great read along with some great ideas !

Only thing is I know nothing about Pokèmon and wouldn't know the first thing about the niche
so I wouldn't even attempted it .
But I always love to here great ideas that work and try to incorporate some of the thinking
that worked into my own angels and niche on my campaigns.

Its stuff like this that makes this a great place to be a part of.
Thanks again.

Great campaign - one for the newsletter for sure.

Perfect example of using really relevant targeting for gaming - if you get the targeting right on games they can be a goldmine.

Definitely an interesting angle to approach. I'm curious how the choices of Pokemon cards flowed into signing up for another TCG altogether, but I realize you can't hand out the entire play book, lol. Good work.

Are you not worried you're violating copyrights with your Pokemon images?

Your ad is becoming more expensive since people are not interested in it. We usually have a frequency cap around 5-8.

You should be careful with this

Cf the last section of Facebook ad guidelines https://www.facebook.com/ad_guidelines.php

Many people have had offers pulled by the advertiser and Facebook ads rejected or even accounts banned for this.

Also nearly all advertisers don't allow you to use images from other games (especially copyrighted images, and Nintendo are one of the most aggressive companies when it comes to protecting their IPs) - you're risking not getting paid with this technique.

Edit: Great example of how to create a campaign with a consistent flow through ads->LP though.

You are 100% correct, and thank you for the reminder.

Let me elaborate on this!

For this campaign, I did not care. It was a quick fun-to-do. When running more serious stuff, you should indeed be careful with copyright infringement. Better safe than sorry, and there's thousands of other, better pictures I could've used for this.

Take that into consideration! And don't rip this campaign

I've got a question for you. How did you create the campaign? Is it for post engagements/website clicks or something else? Thank you.

I'm into gaming for up to 8 months, promoting only gaming related offers. Let's talk more about your group! Shoot me a PM with your Skype ( already tried but I couldnt pm you )
