Hi all,
I am new to STM and am loving it. I have been doing a lot of reading and am really keen to start learning and earning in the Gaming vertical.
To that end I have also invested in SocialAdNinja to see who is doing what in Gaming.
I have seen that there are a lot of ads for Wartune in particular and I am going to try to sign up via Wolf Storm Media to get started.
As a newbie, what do you think my chances are of being signed up.
Also, should I be considering sending paid Facebook traffic direct to the Wartune signup or using landing pages?
I was going to start without my own landing pages to see if I could make any money in Gaming directly. I was thinking a re-direct might be best on the link.
I am aiming to do a load of image testing, headline and body text testing over the next few weeks but having this week off from work I was really hoping to get into something and make some green this week to spur me on. I am going to closely follow some of the targeting shown on the ads at SocialAdNinja as clearly those are working. I don't want to copy, just get inspiration and then get out there and test, test, test.
Any thoughts of assistance would be really appreciate. I have so much respect for all of you here and you all seem to be killing it!!
better if you could start with dating and weight loss product..gaming is tough to get better ROI with fb....But if you are looking for dating and weight loss to be ppushing with fb you need cloaker..!!
Don't touch dating and weight loss as a newbie... dating is out regardless so just don't go there (a cloaker doesn't change the fact that FB has hammered down on dating...)
Gaming is a great place to start. You may find it difficult to find profit but you should treat your first campaigns as a learning experience. Going into a new traffic source (and AM entirely) and expecting profitability is a sure fire way to be disappointed.
My first suggestion would be to learn how to correctly track and redirect Facebook traffic. Never direct link to an AFFILIATE link on Facebook. Why? The link domains are often blacklisted, and the affiliate networks often redirect traffic that is outside the allowed countries for a specific offer to a 'catch-all' such as a penny auction. These 'catch-all' offers are invariably non-compliant and will lead to ad disapproval. The simplest way to avoid this is to ask your AM to turn off geo-redirection for you for the specific offer you want to run. When done, test that it loads to the offer page as you expect for you, and if necessary through a VPN from another country.
Secondly, always check all offer pages on MyWoT.com. Unfortunately Facebook uses MyWoT as an indicator of a page's standard and will automatically deny any pages that are red-rated. You can quickly check the MyWoT rating for a page using a bookmarklet - make a bookmark in your browser bar and change the URL to the following:
javascript:(function%28%29%7Bvar%20f%3Ddocument.getElementById%28%27wot-bookmarklet%27%29%3Bif%28f%29%7Bf.parentNode.removeChild%28f%29%3Breturn%3B%7Dvar%20l%3Dlocation.hostname%3Bif%28l%26%26l.length%29%7Bf%3Ddocument.createElement%28%27iframe%27%29%3Bif%28f%29%7Bf.setAttribute%28%27id%27%2C%27wot-bookmarklet%27%29%3Bf.setAttribute%28%27src%27%2C%27http%3A//www.mywot.com/bookmarklet/%27+encodeURIComponent%28location.hostname%29%29%3Bf.setAttribute%28%27frameborder%27%2C0%29%3Bf.setAttribute%28%27scrolling%27%2C%27no%27%29%3Bf.setAttribute%28%27style%27%2C%27position%3Afixed%3Btop%3A10px%3Bleft%3A10px%3B%27+%27width%3A135px%3Bheight%3A235px%3Bborder%3A0%3Bmargin%3A0%3Bpadding%3A0%3Bz-index%3A10487575%3B%27%29%3Bif%28document.body%29%7Bdocument.body.appendChild%28f%29%3B%7D%7D%7D%7D)()
Thanks Zeno. Some really great tips above and thanks for taking the time out to help. I really appreciate it.
Zeno has some great tips. The part about targetting is especially extremely important when starting out, but can also be tricky to balance when you want to scale. I would actually recommend, when first starting out, to go as narrow as possible. Find some demo, create ads that speaks to THEM directly and then try to get some conversions in the door.. do not expect to profit, but expect to learn the ropes and see what works.
I'd start with a super-tight demo, test test test, and then try to scale.
1) Get cheap traffic -> find out how to get lowest possible CPC. Which means you first and foremost need a good image and enticing ad copy.
2) Try to get some conversions (not be profitable)
3) Test more, optimize
4) THEN try to scale and maybe look for some profit.
Also–please do NOT forget LP's. They are extremely important and can easily mean the difference between red and green. Read up on landing page formulas, try out a bunch of techniques for different demos and see what works. There really is no magic bullet. On some campaign I've seen insane profits from a demo, but trying to scale it horizontally by adding more traffic from another demo, it all went to shit.
I just posted a FB gaming campaign that worked for me. The reason this worked was because the demo was extremely narrowed down and highly targeted. It was also hard to scale by adding more of the same traffic, which is why I pointed out that it can be tricky balancing it out this when starting out. Because when you start being profitable you also want more volume.
So the key is: experiment. Test. See what works. Go from there. And come back to this thread when you have more questions!
