When I was building adsense niche sites for organic traffic I always monetized immediately... There were rumors that google could penalize for adding ad code early, but I never found that to be true. Check out empire flippers (formerly adense flippers) and niche pursuits for help with layouts. split test different ad layouts and always include a txt link bar under header, for me it generally gave the highest ctr.
If you are on WP there are some good themes to split test ad layouts to find a winner. the theme built by spencer at niche pursuits was my favorite as the empire flippers one was a little buggy when I tested it, and it rotated the entire theme instead of just the ad layout.

Thanks dude, is it best to monetize with ad sense or should i try other affiliate networks like commission junction etc. The reason i ask is, I tried to get a Google ad sense account for my website but was turned down and the reasons were vague.

I read somewhere that I should wait until I have at least 1000 daily visitors and that my website should be at least 6 months old. Is this true.

What are your tips for Google ad sense what should I have in place before I re apply

Monetize immediately with article marketing with SEO and paid traffic /Facebook ads

Amazon / CJ / Sharesale, etc, find your niche and monetize that sh1z now

Add email opt in to gather names to provide value and sell to them weekly
