I have a desktop application that has a decent amount natural search traffic (think homepage/search box traffic) that I’m sending to a lander containing some PPC feeds. On non-branded terms “car insurance quotes, 0 interest credit cards, etc.” revenue is great. The issue I’m running into now is that most volume comes from branded searches – when I send that traffic to my PPC feeds, there isn’t a lot of ad coverage – sometimes zero ads. some examples of my highest volume search terms:
facebook
youtube
facebook login
google
google chrome
hotmail
gmail
yahoo mail
yahoo
you tube
google maps
ebay
facebook.com
netflix
firefox
yahoo.com
itunes
face
amazon
microsoft security essentials
minecraft
mapquest
porn
amazon.com
I’m trying to think of some better ways to monetize this traffic – including sending to some targeted aff offers.
Thoughts?
Also interested in this topic :-) what about intercepting the click to the destination (facebook) with an interstitial lead capture ad of some sort? Thoughts?
@baaron - bad idea. You don't want some of the biggest brands in the world to track your ass down.
@merrijam - do you target international traffic?
I'd be tempted to throw a lot of offers at the wall and see what sticks! You control the traffic, so start adding in some ads for general offers to the branded feeds, and see what works best.
This assumes I've not misunderstood the nature of your application - would it be possible to do that?
